Well, that's an interesting first post. Accidents happen all the time and I know several people who were involved in them, I guess it's just a matter of severity as to what you are inquiring about. I do not personally know anyone who has died on the lake, but such a fate happens to someone every year or two.

Does eating food at the lake off of a Traeger count as an accident, or just poor judgement?

If the food is free, I would say none of the above. Have to wonder why you would get a grill that you have to have tethered to a GFCI recept though. If you want to cook with electricity, just get a George Foreman grill, put it on your coffee table and you can watch "The View" while you are "grilling".

Why are you asking? I noticed this is your first post and wonder why you skipped 2011? You can Google information by searching: lake martin al accidents 2010.

Looks like we are going to have to expand this list:

April:  Since he is not an advertiser, the forum police ( McGill, Lil Talisi and MrHodja) ban Summer Lover from using the words  “bumper”, “dock”, “beer”,  “pole” and “catboat”.  Summer Lover stops posting.

Yes it was and still is a horriable thing. I can't say alot, guess I am trying to prepare for what i see when I come down for the trial. Just wondering what lake Martin had that she liked and of course I will be visiting the lake to kinda see were it happened and etc. Wondering if people know about this trial that will take place in Wetumpka.

Lake Martin is one of the most beautiful lakes in the South East, so what she liked here is not hard to imagine.  Most of our lake users are good people and unfortunately sometimes bad choices are made and bad things happen. It's sad when an intended fun event turns out so tragic, and hopefully people will learn from what happened to your sister. The accident was well publicized when it happened (and it pops up in the news on occasion) , but I haven't heard much lately.

Kisma, here's your chance to tell the sister of the girl that died how you really feel. "If I were drunk and driving a boat or a car and killed someone.  I would leave the  scene and show up when I was sober.  Putting myself at less risk of a life sentence." There is no room for people who have this mentality on our lakes, or our planet for that matter. Please ejaclulate yourself from existence you POS.

Im not quite sure how to reply to your statement. There is no life sentence in AL for killing someone by vessel, even if they were drunk. Its only a max of 5yrs. My family and I are trying to find supporters who wants this to change.Your gov just signed into law making it legal to make and sell larger beer bottles. This is not your communitys fault, most are unawear of the laws concerning alcohol and boating. My sister will never be back to see my 4 children grow up. But if I can keep someone else from this ache inside  that haunts me everyday, you bet Im going to try to.

Sorry for your loss.It is not the size of the drink that impairs it is the drinker's actions that dictate the outcome.I didnt know there was a cap on vehiclular manslaughter.Even if a judge hands out a 20 yr sentense one can get out in 7 with good behavaior.

Actually is called Homicide by Vessel.

Im sorry but again its not called man anything if ur on a boat. Grand jury said homicide by vessel. also fyi AL and alot of the other 50 states do not charge he same as if you were to drink and drive a car and  you was to kill someone. i think its worse being on the water  because more time for help\rescue, drowning and etc. compared to fast services on land.

He (kizma) made the statement (after your sister died) he would leave the scene of a deadly accident if drunk to minimize time served. POS in my opinion.
