This may distract from the "tranquility" of this site, but it is also one of the main motivators for people to visit the site.
If debate was erased from the forum, there would be no forum.
Advertisers expect visibility, with these debates they get what they want and we get free use of the resources.
Its a give and take. The only unfortunate by-product of all the debate is when opinion turns to attack and people reply in-kind....

No, you're not the only one, and in some ways, not the worst one. But one, yes. I think you make many valid, or at least reasonable points, but you do it in a way that brings out the worst in others. If you made your arguments in a more respectful and humble way, I think you would encounter less hostility. That's just from an outsider looking in. I have no dog in this fight and don't mean to pick one with you. Just some friendly advice, for what it's worth.
