A solution tried and true. Wrap about 3 feet of chicken wire around the base of the trees to prevent the beavers from getting their little teeth at the bark. It works.

Chill Hog. Beavers do not like ALL trees. The wire is a simple solution compared to more intensive measures. And if you have a $10,000 tree then a beaver is not you biggest problem.

Replace one? I chop dozens down each summer, otherwise I would be surrounded and wouldn't be able to see the lake. Or maybe even getto the lake. ("Chop down" is an overstatement, since there's not much chopping if you do it while they are just a few inches tall.) If I ever need to replace one, I'll just let one of the seedlings live.

Had a beaver take my lacecut Japanese maple. I had it planted close to the lake. Couldn't believe it. The replacement got planted as far from the lake as I could get it.

Have you tried baiting it with dollar bills?

Won't work well at all. Dollar bills will go thru the holes in the wire but you can't tuck them into that beaver collar very easy at all!!

Beavers mate for life and live and work in a tight family structure where each individual has particular duties. To relocate one could be very detrimental to the family unit. Chicken wire may stop them but you will need several layers. I would use several tomato stakes woven in the mix with the wire to stiffen it enough to make it tough to get through. I fight one in the winter. Apparently they really like turnip greens because they raid our patch nightly if we don't take precautions. I use tomato baskets, wire and stakes to block their path and sometimes they still get through and we have to rebuild the barricade to stop them. I refuse to kill or relocate them so we just plant a bigger, thicker patch to make sure there is enough for all of us...lol

We have put chicken wirebut only one layer - so good, so far. We are keeping a close eye on our trees. However, we realized that they have pruned our roses!!! Such a helpful animal....

That is deer the like your roses. I don't think beavers eat them. Spray with deer-be-gone.

I have had deer eat my roses before but they eat the tender foliage at the top of stems. These are cut off at the bottom of stem, and we found a long stem cleanly cut off at bottom of stem and in the lake. I don't think it is deer.
