MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Gov. Bob Riley is to sign an executive order that will designate Lake Martin as a "Treasured Alabama Lake."

Riley has scheduled a news conference for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to make Lake Martin the first lake in the state to receive the special designation.

Riley will sign the order in a ceremony at the lighthouse at Children's Harbor on Lake Martin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Riley said the "Treasured Alabama Lake" designation will be awarded to lakes that meet quality standards for cleanliness and nutrient enrichment.

I wonder if the fact that he owns a home on Lake Martin influenced his decision?

Of course, we all know its the best lake in AL.

On that we agree!  I guess I was still asleep when I posted that article - just realized it is on the home page as well.

To all, a great day!

That is all kind of nice and nice.  Hopefully, this will be the start of getting the recognition our lake area deserves, and maybe one day our state tourism bureau will see fit to give Lake Martin it's own designation instead of just listing the various cities around the lake. Now That would have a positive affect our business' could use.

Dick Bronson and Lake Watch, the Governor is finally recognizing Lake Martin. Dick has worked tirelessly for the past few years to gain this elite status for our lake. When the top award offered by ADEM excluded Lake Martin because it was an impoundment he worked with the State to establish new criteria for lakes. His work with ADEM, Auburn University, and others is to be commended. Without his work, accolades such as this would not happen.

OSMS you beat to the accolade for Dick and Water Watch.  Hope now that ADEM has to REALLY begin protecting the lake and stepping up as they should have in the past !!!!!!
