Wonder when Russell is going to start developing the island where they built the bridge a few years ago.

It's not likely to happen anytime soon. There are approximately 400 total lots in The Ridge development (across from Chimney Rock Island). Russell Lands isn't nearing the 200 lots developed/sold. My guess is that, when they get closer to the 300 level, the logging and rough road work will begin.
It's my humble opinion that any alteration of the island's landscape will be a travesty.

It might be sooner than you think; Phase Three (which includes Dixie Sailing Club Road) passes by the bridge, so unless the island is a separate phase, it will be developed along with the rest of Phase Three.
Oh wait, we're forgetting-- Russell Lands has "no plans to develop the island, they built that bridge just so they could harvest the timber." (That's what Russell VP Jim Bain said, anyway.)

I hate to spread more conspircacy theories .. but here is the one I heard, and it does seem to make sense. It is getting harder and harder to get bridges and any kind of commercial development approved by APC and FERC. I heard that Russell Lands went ahead and got approvals and built the bridge to the island now -- because they were afraid that they might not get the approval ten years from now. Everything I have ever heard from any of the RL folks is that the island will not be developed any time soon. I, for one, believe them.

A guy I know once asked Ben Russell himself about potential developments on Rattlesnake Ridge. Ben said "There are no plans to develop that area." (This was despite the tree-cutting and road-building going on, which prompted the guy to ask in the first place.) Two weeks later, The Ridge was formally announced.
So believe what you want, but it's a documented fact that the head of Russell is a bald-faced liar; and the old saying goes: a fish rots from the head down...

I heard some time ago that for some reason APC/FERC was holding up the development--there does seem to be a 'higher power" than Russell.

I do not think they built a bridge just to harvest the timber. But I do believe they went ahead while they could get a permit.

Probably was a pre-emptive measure to avoid future EPA regs that are getting crazier by the year. Just wait until we have our own "snail darter" and the lake owners have to put up with that kind of stuff......this BB will be really active then.

Heard from a very reliable source that the Corp of Engineers plan to dismantle the bridge and move it in sections to replace the bridge at Blue Creek next to The Cove. The source also asked if I would leave him a glass of milk by the fire place on December 24th.
