I think she has sunk to a new low, not just in politics, but in basic human decency, and that is a very high bar to clear for her.  Of course, she will be regarded as a hero among many in her congressional district, but throughout most of the rest of the country, not so much.  That moment has to be the new standard for the definition of a sore loser.  It really could cost the democrats the House in November.  Unbelievable.

The rest of the story......

Trump refused to shake her hand...maybe if he were a real man he would have extended his hand. Can't really blame her...I am sure if the roles were reversed Trump would have done the same.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it.  My opinion--only a moron would equate those two actions.

I think the reality in this hyperpartisan world is that many on the right were glad he didn't shake her hand and many on the left were glad she tore up his speech for all to see.  I would point out that he didn't shake the Vice President's hand either and if you watch it in real time it's not even clear to me that he saw her extend her hand before he turned.  But him not shaking the Speaker's or VP's hands before his speech will be forgotten but her tearing up his speech will be the GIF gift of 2020.  If he intentionally ignored her handshake out of spite I suspect he would have shaken the VP's hand.  I simply think he didn't see her extend her hand and forgot but only he knows for sure.

Pretty much spot on.  However, I would have added Rush Limbaugh being given the Medal of Freedom.

I'm sorry, but giving Rush Limbaugh the Freedom medal was just disgusting.  He is a disgusting man that has been sowing seeds of hate and discontent long before Trump was President.

I keep waiting for the adults to show up.  He refuses her handshake (he saw it) and her tearing up his speech - her darting out little smirks to her fellow democrats during the speech.  I want to know when the adults are going to show up.  She's ticked off because the Mueller investigation didn't get him and now the impeachment is an abject failure and then the total failure of the Iowa caucus.

I give the President kudos not giving in to impulse and mentioning the impeachment - you know that must have taken great self control on his part, especially with Pelosi sitting behind him and Schiff front and center.  I thought it was a good speech, but I didn't like when the Republicans chanted "4 more years" - it was not a political rally.

I completely disagree with your take on Rush Limbaugh.  He saved AM radio and he has donated tens of millions of dollars to charities, mostly military ones.  And he doesn't sow hatred so I doubt you have ever listened to him for any length of time.  He is funny, irreverant and paved the way for an alternative to the govt media complex.  Twenty years ago I would have agreed with you about him deserving this award but I can say with 100% certainty that if Joe Biden got one, which he did, Rush deserves one 100 times more.  And by the way, my wife doesn't like listening to his show either but not because of his views or position on the issues.  She doesn't get his humor.

So Hound, you find Limbaugh's moment disgusting, however, it has been mentioned that Obama awarded the PMOF to  Harvey Milk, who was I believe,  according to a book written about him, accused of being a pedophile. and not only that, he has a USNS named after him.  I find that also disgusting for a far different reason.

The USS Limbaugh has a great ring to it!

You would be a much better informed person had you been listening to Rush.

He is the master of "illustrating the absurd through absurdity".

One of my favorite Rush memories was a siminar caller that went on a rant and made stupid remarks about Rush and his making a million dollars a year, yada yada.  Rush just let him go until he woud down and his only remark was he needed to correct one thing, and that was he made a lot closer to a million dollars a DAY than a million a year and he just moved on with another caller.  This was atl least 15 years  ago, maybe more.  He had just signed a contract worth 300 million a year at the time of the call.

Rush said if Obama was elected he would leave the country.  He didn't.

While my garage/loft was being built, we had a stone guy who blasted Rush every day.  You are right, I don't get his humor.  Nothing anyone is going to say that is going to change my mind about him.  BTW, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is the same award that Mother Theresa got for her work with the poor... do you think they are in the same category?

Harvey Milk was assasscinated at his desk.  This is an award that was given to Mother Theresa for her work with the poor.  Do you think Rush Limbaugh is in the same category with her?  I don't.  He's an entertainer that found an audience he could exploit and he made a lot of money at it.  I don't begrudge him the money, but he plays to an audience and says what they want to hear.  The Ditto Heads.  He bragged about smoking cigars and now he has lung cancer.  The man was a drug addict at one point.  Is this someone that deserves a medal?  I feel about him like I felt about Obama giving awards to entertainers and sports figures.  And that is not kindly.

I could say more, but it's clear that people here like him and listen to him.  God bless you and go in peace.  I don't want to insult anyone.

I am neither poor, pissed or "CT" whatever that is supposed to mean.  Like you, I was merely expressing my opinion.  This is an opinion board after all.

There is a difference in hearing someone and listening to them.  I suspet your own bias might have caused you to pre-judge him.  I am not a daily listener at this point but have been in the past.  As for comparing him to Mother Teresa, well thats just cray cray.  They are different people with different objectives for their individual lifes.  But one could aruge that his phillantropy and money has done as much good as her activism did.  Not for me to decide.

Did Joe Biden deserve his?

Whoever told you that they were lying.  I can assure you with 100% certainty that he never said he would leave the country if Obama was elected or re-elected.  He did say that if Obamacare were passed he might have to go to Costa Rica for health care.  This exchange was misrepresented by the left over and over.  But I defy you to find prrof that he said he would leave because of Obama.  It never happened.  He loves this country and states over and over that it is the greatest country in the world in all of human history.

Hey, Hound. I agree with what you usually say, however, being a Rush fan, you've stepped on some toes. I would venture to say that you developed your dislike for Rush during your more liberal days. If you had listened to him for a couple of weeks with an open mind, I believe you would have come to appreciate his humor and his point of view politically. You might also have gotten a glimpse into his generosity and his patriotic core; his extreme love for this country.

You are correct in that he was at one time addicted to pain medication during a period when he was experiencing severe back and neck pain after an unsuccessful spinal surgery. Calling him a drug addict is a bit harsh, however. Also true, his cigar smoking has likely been the cause of his present health crisis. Some decisions come back to bite us as this one has him. Unfortunately, he also smoked cigarettes in his earlier years as he often refers to his "formerly nicotine stained hands." Not that it matters, but this may actually have been the root cause for the cancer. Regardless of the cause, I am deeply saddened by his diagnosis.

You argue that he is not on the same humanitarian level as Mother Teresa and that's probably a fair statement. However, he has unselfishly given away millions to humanitarian and veteran causes. Mother Teresa set a pretty high bar. Does every recepiant have to be on her level? Since you brought him up, did Harvey Milk meet that standard in your opinion?

Certainly not trying to pick a fight because I highly regard and appreciate you, your service and almost all of your opinions in the last several years. Just wish you would have given Rush a fair listen to rather than, as I suspect, formed your opinion on what your past liberal friends have said about him.

An unashamedly proud Rush fan, or if you prefer, Ditto head.

Obviously I can't prove he said it, but you can't prove he didn't.  Sorry, I don't think he deserved it any more than those entertainers and personalities that Obama gave it to.  Who do I think should get it - all those ordinary people who are out there making a difference and doing extraordinary things.  It's not supposed to be a political quid pro quo for supporting one politician or the other.

And Lifer, whether I "listened" to Rush or "heard" Rush, it really doesn't matter - after a month of hearing it day after day, I didn't change my opinion about him or his show.  It's okay if you all like it or found it meaningful.  I don't hold it against you.  I happen to love "All Things Considered" on NPR.

No offense taken.  I don't know why I don't like him - except when I have listened to him, it seemed to me he was sowing the thread of distrust and suspicion all the time.  I spent a month listening to him when we were having our garage/loft built.  The guy that did the stone work blasted him on his radio every day.  (and no I didn't ask him to turn it down).  I don't know that I am any less liberal on some things than I have ever been.  I generally support the conservative perspective.  There are some social issues that I once felt more liberal about than I do now.  I still support equal rights for women, but not in with the "pussy hat group", I see a lot of flaws in the "me too" movement and worry that it will do more harm for women in the workplace than good. But age and perspective changes and being away for a long time from the insulation of Washington.

I don't really have a problem with people that enjoy and find meaning in Rush's message.  I like "All Things Considered" on NPR and find that interesting.

If Rush has been supporting veterans and veteran causes, well good for him.  All our veterans need all the support they can get.

Maybe I'm just annoyed that I think that the whole medal giving (outside the Congressional Medal of Honor), to the rich and famous has become a joke.  There are lots of every day Americans who do extraordinary things who should be considered for a medal like that.

And BTW, I don't find CNN, MSNBC or any of the other so called news services credible and I wouldn't applaud any of them getting a medal.  Every time I see Chuck Todd or Margaret Brennan, I literally want to slap them. :-)

would have been if Barack Obama had used the occasion of the State of the Union address to have Michelle Obama hang the Medal of Freedom on Michael Moore?  I would have called him out as doing a very stupid thing at a very inappropriate time.  Of course stupid and inapropriate acts or SOP for this president!

What if? What if? What if? It goes on and on and on? I am 79 years old but I still remember an "old saying" my Grandfather use to say and I bet you remember it too: "If cow s-it was 'butter' you wouldn't have to churn". I dare say there are not too many youngsters today that would have a clue what was meant by that "old saying"!!!!!!!!!!! Those were the "good old days".

Hound, I can assure you if he said that it would be easily proven because there are left wing groups like Media Matters that listen to his show from start to finish looking for anything to pillory him with....and that one would be front and center.  I can assure you he never said it.

As for him getting the medal, he is as deserving as many others that have gotten it and more deserving than more than a few.  Like most things, it has been cheapened to the point where it is close to meaningless...like the Nobel Peace prize, etc.

Nada, zip, nothing.  Rush deserves it way more than Biden.  And no, we don't believe you that you would have called Obama out for giving it to Michael Moore.  But here's a list of some of the recipients that got the medal from Obama for pretending to be someone else in a movie.

Meryl Streep

Steven Spielberg

Robert Redford

Robert DeNiro

Tom Hanks

Here are some of the ones he gave the award to in TV

Lorne Michaels

Ellen DeGeneres

I could go on with the recipients no less deserving than Rush, who is only the 3rd in history in radio.

To paraphrase Hillary, what difference does it make?  I actually loved it because it forced the Democrats to watch it happen.  A master stroke of there ever was one. #winning #MAGA #KAG #Trump2024

Well I'm 76 and remember my daddy enforcing his questioned instructions with ''because I know the difference between chicken chit and chicken salad.''  It is frightening that you and most of this forum does not and now we have ''chicken'' chit running the country!!
