Swine poll

-In a below thread I spoke of a poll I was conducting on Swine Flu shots, and asked if any of you wanted to participate. About 50 friends and acquaintances participated, including 8 from this forum. I don't know much about y'all on the forum so I took a guess at your ages from some of the posts and also guessed at your political leanings ...that was a little easier :=) -Here are some of teh results from my unscientific poll: -People over 55: 70% say they will take teh shots. -People 21-55: 60% say they will take the shots. -Grandkids: abpout 70% of people over 55 think their grandkids should take the shots (but from comments, it seems that only about 50% would actually tell their kids to get shots for the grandkids. They believe that choice is the parents and didn't want to influence them) -Kids: about 60% of parents said they will get shots for their kids
(note: numbers for teh kids reflect the overall numbers for the adults)
-Where I could, I also ran teh numbers on the adults by education level, religious beliefs, and political leanings. Educational levels and religious beliefs didn't change the numbers much, probably because i didn't have enough variety in my group. However, categorizing by political leanings (as I viewed them) were interesting. Here's what I got: -dems/liberals: 90% were going to get the shots and all of tehm thought their kids/grandkids should get them too. 80% of teh seniors were going to advise their kids to have the grandkids vacinated. -repubs/conservatives: only 40% of teh seniors and 50% of teh younger crowd were going to get shots and have their kids get shots. Only 20% of teh seniors whould advise their kids to have the grandkids vacinated, some saying that choice was up to the kids and they didn't want to unduely influence them. -independents; their numbers were almost identical to teh liberals' numbers (this should make MM happy cuz it seems to support his contention we are closet liberals).
-I'm not sure what all these numbers mean, but I was a little surprised at how few people I know were going to get shots for themselves but especially for their kids. This of course may change if it truely becomes an epidemic.

Interesting demographics. I have no plan to get the Swine vacine because I'm not in the risk group. I personally think that parents discuss it with their kid's peditrician and then make a decision.

I am not in the at risk group because of my age (66)...supposedly I have been exposed at some point over my many years and have an immunity to this pig plague national health emergency. Using that reasoning, why not let all healthy citizens be exposed, develop an immunity, and be over and done with this.
Having a rather simple mind, I tend to have simple solutions to some problems.
