Sad to hear of the passing of Robert Novak. I always enjoyed his columns, with his partner in writing Rowland Evans. While I very often disagreed with his ultra-conservative views, I always respected his honesty. You gotta love a guy who titles his own memoir "The Prince of Darknes". I wish today's journalists on all sides of the issues could be more like Novak & Rowlands.

Very sad news indeed. He has been battling cancer for a couple of years. I read the Prince of Darkness and it is a very interesting read. Really gives you some insight into the inside the beltway mentality and interaction with the media. Strange bedfellows to say the least.

While I did not agree with Novak most of the time, I did enjoy watching Crossfire for many years. Sadden to see his passing.

I think you would enjoy it and find it enlightening. It did not strike me as overtly political but more biographical. Lots of interesting stories about his relationships with politicians of all stripes. Also clears the air over the Valerie Plame business.

Another journalist I miss is David Brinkley. He wrote a book called "Washington Goes To War" that is one of my all-time favorite books. Hound, I think you would like this one .. it talks about how D.C. was a small, sleepy town until WWII, and how everything changed, including a huge influx of young women to fill the multitude of jobs as the military complex was revved up. I haven't read Novak's memoir, but it's on my list for my next trip to Books-A-Million.

I would like to read it also. He certainly was in Washington for a long time.

Regarding the influx of young women in Washington -- I actually got a chance work with some of these ladies -- they were much older than I, but the stories they could tell!! Some of them went to Washington as young women and never left -- fought for and got a career out of it. I'm sure it really shook things up.
They were a breed unto themselves.
