Well "new" jobless claims finally broke under 600,000 this past week to "only" 565,000. The 4 week moving average is still at 606,000. Although, the critics were saying that it may have been less layoffs and some temporary highering for the holiday weekend. Guess we will see next we if there is a trend building. I hope so for those that need a job and want to work.

I still say it is so sad the money that was spend and after 6 months we are still not seeing any meaningful improvement.

In my office building there is a food court underground that connects 3 buildings together. In the last month, 3 restaurants have closed up. More jobs lost, more tax revenue lost locally and at the federal level.

What is it that Obama does not understand about tax cuts and incentives to small business that actually does create jobs.

This is suppose to be the party that cares more about the "little guy" yet their policies hurt them more. Unless you count more government hand outs as benefiting. But I would think if given a choice between a hand out and a job, they would want the job.

From my unscientific observations over the last fifty years, I would say there is a substantial group of people who prefer a government handout over a job, especially when the handouts continue to increase.

My BIL handles a lot of business bankruptsy and he says that they can hardly keep pace with the business. From what he tells me, a lot of small businesses were under capitalized and when the economy got hard, they couldn't hang on. He's Mr. Doom and Gloom with the economy.

The 8% employer tax associated with the current house health care plan will certainly add to these numbers. We are a small, multi unit, independent retailer that does not offer benefits. I assure you, regardless of the mandates, I will not permit my total payroll expense to increase. If the thinkers levy an 8% tax, I will reduce payroll hours, and/or starting rates, to compensate.
