Aree... I was out yesterday. On the way to Chucks for lunch, I had to come to a complete stop while riding down the middle of the channel to let a Jet Ski pass in front of me two times. On the way back, I had to do it again. I know these kids are out to have fun and I'm all for that. But, I do believe we need to teach/educate more on rules of the road.

Ya'll must have been on the south part of the lake. The area around Sandy Creek, Manoy Creek, and Young's Island was not too busy this weekend.

I agree pontoon I was surprised how little traffic there was out there. May still be a lot of graduation stuff going on. Found two new rope swings kept us entertained for hours. We were up in your neck of the woods.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that noticed the reckless driving (mainly on Saturday and Sunday). I was starting to wonder if I was the one that needed to take a boating class! There were two or three incidents that were a little too close for comfort for me... like CAT said where PWC's being driven by 12-14 year olds were playing chicken with us, and made us come to a complete stop from 40MPH and still only missed us by 25 feet or less and didn't even seem to notice us. I would say that it was the busiest up there Saturday and Sunday than it has been since July 4, 2006, so maybe it is just all the unexperienced boaters showing up again all at once because of the full pool. I was however, glad to see all the marine police taking care of the drunk boaters. All in all, it was a beautiful weekend on the lake and I look forward to many more this summer!

We experienced about the same Saturday, we were almost back to the cabin, trailing another boat at about 250 yards, and had a personal water nuisance with two young girls approach from port and go between. The passenger did see us, and did not appear comfortable, the operator seemed to see only “neat wake to jump”. These kids are about like deer along the roads on a cool Fall night – you had better be watching out for them….

Hey... quit telling folks how realitively quiet the north part of the lake is... pretty soon they'll find something to jump off of and start coming up here!

I made a run down around the rock in my new Hurricane this weekend just to see how it handles rough water conditions. I dodged too many Sea Doo's et. al., coming and going for my comfort, so I'll just be cruising around up here from now on. And the Hurricane was just fine. It was everyone else who made me nervous.

Anyone aboard my PWC will understand right of way and be reminded of common sense before they are allowed to venture out. I don't care if they have a boating license or not; I'm giving the lecture. Don't listen? Don't ride.

Thanks to the Marine Patrol for their work over the weekend. Stay out there and stay safe!

Totally unbelievable this weekend. Hope no one got hurt. Tried to fish a little, early Saturday morning. Watched 2 PWC's doing figure 8's for at least 45 minutes. Couldn't fish for watching them and wondering when they were going to crash into each other and how fast I could get to them if they did.

Where you find the swings? Were they in good shape? We enjoyed a few trips through the slalom course just east of wind creek. Saturday was crazy !We did experience the same thing with some very young PWC drivers that didn't look back and cut through boats in the roughest part of the lake Saturday. It was much more crowded around the rock, chucks, ridge than in the northern part of the lake. There were still a lot of boats, just spread out more. Maybe the problem in the online boating course lets kids take the test with the book. They don't absorb the info they are reading. Someone should offer an in water course for parents sake. There's a summer job for one of those college kids!

Had a great time this weekend! Hope everyone else did the same. Does anyone know what steps you have to take to get a no wake zone established. I live next to the house on the island in Blue Creek and man is it a accident waiting to happen. I predict if theres not a bouy put out by years end, there will be a serious injury or fatality. You have completely brain dead jet skiers moving around the island in front of my house at 20-30 mph with nothing but blind spots, paddle boats, swimmers and little children. If your a marine police officer you may want to come sit on my dock next weekend and take some notes. There is a serious disaster waiting to happen and several concerned homeowners. Anyways, had a terrific weekend on the water!

Its not just the kids on jet ski's. I had a pontoon boat pulling a tube make a turn right toward me as he is looking in the opposite direct and back at the tube. I had to come to a complete stop and blow my horn to get him to turn away. I lecture my kids every time they go out on the jet ski but once they are out there I am sure they are like the rest of them (although I hope not.....). I tell them that every year someone gets killed on a jet ski and they need to think twice if they assume it won't be them.

Other than that it was a great weekend on the lake. The best I have had in 3 years (water and weather combined). As far as the posts about Sandy Creek area (which is where we live), I can state categorically that there were literally hundreds of boats and jet skis being driven by drunken imbeciles in the Sandy Creek area all weekend long, including at night, and that I would avoid that area like the plague all summer long. Stay in the main channel and around the Rock where it is nice and quiet and avoid Sandy Creek at all costs! Just a friendly word to the wise, given out of charity and concern for my fellow Lake Martin friends. :-)

I was surprised at the number of small children seen tubing in the main channel. With the number of boats east of Anchor Bay near the power lines, if they were thrown, you either could not see them because of how rough it was, or it would require boats maneuvering through traffic to get to them. An accident waiting to happen.

And what is it with people who think that the whole channel east of the Rock is for anchoring and socializing. There literally was maybe 20 feet available for individuals to navigate past the rock going north and south. Besides this, it was a great weekend despite having to spend the majority of it inside putting the final touches on the place from the fire. Should be back to normal within 2 weeks!

It was all types - coming head on to a boat to port west of Chuck's before main channel. We're still pretty far apart, and there is a 26' Cobalt passing him on his starboard. This genius is apparently looking to go to port and speeds up, cuts directly across the bow of that boat and in front of me. I wouldn't call it a near miss, but it was way, way closer than there was any call for.

That was early Saturday. No doubt that this was a sign of things to come and our original plan of limiting outings middday was spot on! Saw several more genius moves, some on PWCs, some on big boats.

Also hear a lady on a Sea-Doo ask in our slough due north of Chuck's how to get to the ramp on 34. It was already dusk and watched her shoot off and still obviously have no idea where she was or needed to go. Went and ran her down, led her the 10-15 minute ride there. In the dark. Crazy.

Worst part of that was Harbor Pointe apparently told her that they couldn't take out there since they were having a boat show and told her to "Go to the main channel, turn right and go by about 5 sloughs and there you are." Anyone who knows where that ramp is knows that wouldn't do it, especially starting off at dusk, and especially if not very familiar with the lake. What would make someone send a PWC out like that?!?!?

I agree - Sandy Creek was totally out of control this weekend. I saw signs being put up last night that said all boats in Sandy Creek on the weekends will have to run in a counterclockwise route single-file, no cutting across the middle - and at idle speed only. It would take outsiders about an hour and a half to get from the river to the fire tower and back - I would recommend going elsewhere.

I have noticed how people are anchoring closer to the channel as well. I think the problem here is that most people are oblivious that the main channel is there. Plus since someone wants to cut all the bouys then it does not give people a single point to tie off too and instead you have tons of little clusters of boat which make navigation harder.

0600 was the best time to be out this weekend. Hardly any other boats. It was flat water and smooth riding! Gotta love the lake.

To me the main problem is skiboats pulling skiers so close to our dock....waves hit the dock and we hold on for dear life. ......driver of boat is oblivious.

Did not think it was bad. But, I love this lake so much I am oblivious to what's going on around me. Just enjoying the beauty.
