please explain to me why so many think showing a legal picture ID is so invasive to one's privacy in order to vote; you have to do it to see a Doctor, get car/home insurance, buy a gun, etc etc. hopefully you have to show it to get welfare//SSI, food stamps --or is that also a violation of privacy ???

The answer I have heard is because some low income, i.e., minorities don't have picture IDs. They don't have driver's licenses and don't have access to state issued ID cards. And the right to vote is not supposed to be contingent on showing a picture ID. It is seen as a move to discourage low income and minorities from voting.
Practically, I have no idea where this is the case or not. I don't know what they do when they go to all those places that ask for a picture ID. Maybe they don't go to the Dr. either.

Please explain to me how this "rampant voter fraud" is solved by requireing a voter picture ID which has been obtained without having to show a picture. Aren't we just be shifting the venue where the ''fraud'' occurs? You and I go to the doctor and show a picture ID because we have one. I asume people who do not have such (there are millions) are not turned away.
You and I see no problem with having to obtain a picture voter ID because we already have such...drivers license. Lets do this for complete fairness, require each voter to have a voter ID with a picture, but make it a separate card used only to vote and EVERYBODY has to get one if they plan to vote. Make EVERYBODY go through the same inconvenience and hassle to get it as all those people who don't have a picture ID already and who haven't previously needed one...like say an elderly blind black lady who was born in deep rural south Alabama in 1922 and has voted every election since the VRA gave her the vote, but who does not drive, is too old to have an original birth certificate, and originally used her birth name and later her deceased husbands name. No, you and I would not have nearly as big a hassle as she, but it would be enough of an inconvenience to make us think maybe this voter fraud crap is not as nearly as big a deal as the rightwing politicians tell us it is. Come on, none of us fell off the turnip truck last week, we ALL know what is actually driving this voter ID mantra!
Hound you are correct!!

That is not the case at all. I think the idea of voter fraud is greatly exaggerated by those who have other issues. Promoted by those who would have you believe that somehow Obama supporters committed fraud to get him elected.

The real answer is if you had to show a picture ID you would eliminate a lot of vote fraud and Dems thrive on vote fraud. The phony answer is that it supresses the vote of those with low income and minorities. I have never seen anything that convinces me this is the case and while I suspect there may be some without a picture ID I doubt many of them are eligible to vote and even if they are they probably wouldn't. So is it fair to exchange elimination of voter fraud for some having to obtain a picture ID to vote? I of couse believe it is and most on the left would disagree.

Hound, you are correct. This whole voter ID business is a sham but it doesn't mean there is not voter fraud. Several years ago I voted absentee. I obtained the ballot online. All that was needed was my county voter ID number, address and (l think I recall correctly) SS number. They had no way to know that I was who I said I was. I downloaded the ballot, cast my vote and mailed it in. I assume my vote was counted, but there is no way the registrar's office knew whether the voter was actually me. Summing up...there was no requirement of proof that I was who I claimed to be to get the ballot and know way for them to know that who voted and sent in the ballot was who the ballot was sent to. I have a good friend who obtained and voted absentee for at least 3 election cycles for her mother who suffered from altzheimers and had no idea this was happening...the last general election she voted her mother's absentee ballot several weeks after the good lady's death? I have another friend whose husband had such advanced dementia he wasn't even aware of his own existence for the final year of his life...same situation, she Cast his ballot in the 2012 and 2014 general elections. It is not Germaine to the narritave, but both these friend just happen to be staunch Republicans. I have been led to understand, but have no proof, that in most areas the majority of the absentee ballots are cast by Republican voters!!

Name one Republican convicted of voter fraud in Alabama. I can name at least two dimokraps convicted of voter fraud in Alabama in the last election. Why are several counties in the black belt reporting more voters than the counties have people. Archy, you really are an idiot.

2 convicted. Much about nothing Tea Bird. I bet there is another lurking to make 3. Keep looking and tell us when you find the third one. There are more Right Wing Nuts in Congress who profess family values who have been caught with hookers. How about Trump ....3 rd marriage and 2 immigrant brides. Perfect example for the you and the Right........now tell me you found the third one.
Are you sure they weren't absentee ballot fraud? There was absentee fraud in Dothan. But ID not required and new law won't prevent it..

Thre were 429,000 voes by Dems in 2014 election and 2 voter fraud convictions. No deflection just think right wing nuts like you make a big deal of 2 absentee voter fraud cases where IDs would not have made a difference. I don't condone any voter fraud but you seem to accept hookers for GOP congreemen and Trump family values with 3 marriages. No deflection just think you need more evidence of voter fraud than 2. And ,you make a big deal. Small minds think small. But, I know you well enough that I believe you can do better. Work on it this weekend.

Wow, Wixie is telling us that .00045% (one of every 215,000) of the democratic vote was fraudulant!! Disgusting. But, wait just a minute, you say those fraudulant votes were absentee ballots. Well, then why all the fuss about picture ID's for casting a vote at the voter polling places? Wixie see my post above, sounds like you need to join my rant against the loose ID rules for absentee voting. No of course that is a stupid thought on my part...after all, the absentee ballot is the the Republican fraudulant voters best friend so l'm sure you have no problems for the possibility of fraud on those votes...except for these 2 dastardly Democrats of course.
