Am firmly ensconced at a beach house in Gulf Shores. Beach is beautiful with nary a hint of oil, tar or any other evidence of the spill a mere one year ago. And we swam in the lovely water as well. The night sky to the west is lit with oil platforms and is a particularly lovely sight. So despite all the environmental wacko prognosticators of doom and gloom all is back to normal. The Gulf has an amazing ability to biodegrade hydrocarbons as it does quite naturally. I believe if you go back and look at my posts at the time this is exactly what I was convinced would happen. What I find curious is despite the obvious and overwhelming evidence the left still clings to their anti-oil exploration mantra. No doubt there is more to this than protection of the environment. Seems obvious they are the last vestiges of socialism and anti-capitalism. The weather is here...wish you were beautiful.

Well said. I am sure you have the means and resources to look deeper, but on the service things look good. Rentals have been some of the best ever, restaurant lines as longer than ever, sand looks good, water was actually chilly two weeks ago and seafood is good. Yall come

Now about those La marshes......hmmmmm

We have rented our condo for this year’s dose of the ocean! We rented a BIG one this year… high up… corner unit. We are looking forward to LOTS of friends and family…. giggling and other conviviality.
Because I am a scientist, I have an understanding view of nature’s ability to handle insults. I think of the tree-huggers and hand wringers as pathetic, annoying, and expensive. They just want to level the playing field so the rest of the world will like us rather than envy us.

Still have to wonder where the oil went?? The main objective was to prevent it from showing up on the beach.
Spray dispersants on it. Where did the sediment go? The bottom. Nobody is talking about the bottom. Big difference of opinion on the effect from the bottom up, or so I read.

Discussing this with some COE people here for the cleanup, they said the vast majority of the oil sank to the bottom. These are Corps people who worked that spill. There is a considerable trench where that oil went to. About 15% actuall rose to the surface, and the dispersants sank most of that.

I guess. Beaches are beautiful. Fishing and shrimping are good. Tourists are back. Life is good.
I just hope and pray that the sludge down there will not pop up down the road and bite us right in the fanny.
