Sorry to post an item as lame as this, but I need suggestions.
Went up into my attic today to find at least one family of squirrels calling it home. Anyone got any suggestions of someone to clear them out, and close off the many openings in the eaves left by my homebuilder? We are in the Blue Creek area. Thanks.

On the serious side, I ended up buying some small animal traps and baiting them with cheese and peanut butter when we had the problem....be advised the squirrels will return unless properly "dispatched".

Thanks. I bought the home new a year ago hoping that the maintenance would be low for a while. However, it has been nothing but one project after another due to the house construction. From drainage debacles that still haunt me to plumbing issues, it has been the like the movie "The Money Pit". Home inspection showed the squirrel problem, but unfortunately I took the builders word that it was fixed. The traps will be tried, but I have to figure out how to close up the many openings in the soffitts prior to spending the effort. My problem is that the house is on stilts, so it makes getting to the the eaves rather tough. Being a part timer at the lake, also makes these problems all the more wonderful.

I have one such trap (catches them alive-no harm done) Iused it 2 years ago for possums). Worked well for me. You cna try it for free it may help.

had 'em a couple of times. Death is the only fix. If they nest, they are willing to die to get back to the nest. Traps won't work since you're a part timer, and I found that young squirrels can be caught in a trap, but adults are too smart to fall for the trap. Shot gun works well, if they are within 100 yds of your house. Guilt by territory. Pellet gun may work in attic, but don't shoot wiring, etc. Once you thin the herd they will usually get the message. Gotta close up all cracks. Squirrel lovers and democrats need not reply.

The best cure I have seen is a 12 yr. old boy with a pellet rifle. They are positively blooed thirsty.
Also .22 with shot catridges work will without over penetration and limited range.

That has merit, but I'm having trouble deciding whether I dislike squirrels or cats more. You'd have to leave the cat up there for a year to discourage the squirrels. Do dead cats stink worse than dead squirrels?

Had a friend with this problem. Had to make sure all were out of the attic and then sealed up the eave vent they were entering through. They tried to get back into the vent, but he monitored and resealed with 2" boards. Finally they gave up and went away.
Tough problem. Shooting them in the attic for me would mean a roof repair. There are firms called something like "critter getters" that can do this. One acquaintance had bats in the chimney, only way to remove.
Let us know what you decide and the outcome.

love your above post wix....and my cats (they are 1 this year) are scared of squirrels! (they hiss and bite!)
my husband got a pellet gun for Christmas.... 2 down ..thousands to go! so, to the above poster i agree a 12 year old (or one at heart) and a pellet gun is the way to go!!!

We have had a couple of squirrels that have gotten too friendly and familiar with our porch! My "12 year old at heart" husband got out his 22 and started thinning the herd! We had one nesting in our attic a couple of years ago. Even after closing up the whole they had chewed to get in they got out and back in by chewing out of the same spot. Didn't want that problem again

Had to take out a couple today. Really don't like to do it, but they are real trouble if they get in the house. Cold weather's here and they're looking for warmth. Can't blame them.

they eat our cedar siding! if they would leave the house alone we would leave them alone!
