Seems we have found a little sensitivity there....calling any other person an idiot is a bit severe.

Putting the histrionics and showmanship aside, the man makes some pretty valid points. Sorry that you can't get past the fluff to the meat.

And I still haven't given up hope that we can get past this abortion known as the Obama administration and back to the America that made us the strongest and wealthiest country in history. I don't give a poop if you call me reactionary instead of conservative. If it weren't for the entrepreneurs of the past you wouldn't have had your cushy, well paying Government job to retire on. Hope you are enjoying your Navigator with every available option, because you are doing that as a result of the work of the entrepreneurs that you seem so willing to throw under the bus now. You have yours. What about my grandkids? mYou don't seem to give a danm about them and those of others.

From Lerici, Italy,

Nasreddin Hodja

HUH?

I haven't thrown anyone under the bus except Glenn Beck. And if people here can call Obama "Messiah" and other things, I don't feel bad about calling Beck an "idiot". There are a number of talking heads that I think are idiotic. I think Keith Oberman is an idiot too.

Even idiots can hit on a valid point once in a while. And I don't hold it against you if you want to mainline Fox news in it's entirety. They speak to your conservative views and that's fine with me. I sometimes watch Fox news at lunchtime.

One of the reasons I bought a Navigator was because it is American made and because Ford didn't take a buyout. I have a small amount of Ford stock that I have had for years and didn't sell off even when it was worth next to nothing.

It's laughable that you would claim that I am against American business. I spent the last 10 years of my gov't career helping American business compete overseas, sometimes to the criticism of my more conservative colleagues. But that's history. Now I support the economy by shopping.

Maybe I am just seeing the future of America here in Italy -- where there are anywhere from four to eight "guards" at the gate to the naval base and you almost have to run over one of them to get them to acknowledge that you even want to come in. And the entry control system is totally based on paper....no computer anywhere in sight...so it takes three people to get you on base (sometimes with a half-day wait) where one person and a simple database would suffice.

But I guess if Obama will bring great linguine alla scoglio and copious amounts of cheap red wine we could eat and drink ourselves to the point that we didn't think we cared. Is that what you want?

I'm having trouble seeing the connection. As you well know, Italy is not the only country that hasn't quite made the jump to electronics that most of us take for granted.
I suspect that you have had a very frustrating day. Have a glass of wine -- you'll feel better.

Hodja is in Italy, and I just got back from special time with my grand daughter in MD. Had fun in Gaithersville enroute home..

But to Beck.. I think he's a showman, but if Hound would listen to him objectively would she acknowledge that the research his program staff does is pretty much on track? I would be interested in hearing what she says is wrong or inaccurate?? I know it's scary.. but you can listen to Keith Oberman or Chris Matthews and be get the real deal..

Hound???

Just for humor sake...........it could be worse, as you could be dealing with the local police..........we just rec'd last month (Oct) a notice of a traffic violation on one of the expressways near Milan for the trip we took in October 2008! I feel you pain.........the dollar is worth less now than then......

I was on a trip down south in January 2007, was notified by Hertz that they had given my info to the Autostrade nazis in April of that year, and the ticket arrived at my house in October. Now there is efficiency for you....,

Its not that they haven't made the jump to electronics it is the reason why they haven't....bloated burocracy (sp?) and guaranteed gov't jobs....with NO concern about efficiency. They have modern electronics all over the place here....except the gov't. Hmmmmm...that is they way the US seems to be headed and you don't seem to mind.

And indeed I am tryng my level best to rid Italy of its supply of red wine...am failing miserably so must redouble my efforts..:>)

I don't see how you can compare the Italian government to the US government, and I don't think the USG is "headed" that way either. But are there room for efficiencies -- of course.
I've had some real experiences dealing with other governments. You think the Italians are bad? Try the Middle East.

there are kernals of truth from all of them -- but it's where they take it that I find idiotic. It's no longer responsible journalism and it is polarizing the country.

Everything is relative. One of the highlights of my Italian experiences (beyond those of gastronomic proportions) is my return to the land of the sane...although that sentiment is definitely colored by the Obamanation.

Youy rfeally don't want to objectively compare Italian life to American life. Your answer would be "no f'ing way".

Have redoubled my redoubled efforts, but shall never give up!!

Ah, idiotic vs idiots....some (you included) may think some of my posts are idiotic...yet I am not an idiot. Think about it.

And the Italian reserves of vino rosso are depleted by another couple of liters....but alas, the fall grape harvest season makes my job that much harder...but we shall overcome...uh, maybe I'd better not use that line....!!

Mr Hodja,

Why not stock that donkey with a couple cases of vino and send him back to Lake Martin??

I would like to know what his public research has stated that is incorrect.. I know it's difficult to confront, but maybe it's just time to 'cowboy/girl up'?? Much easier to close our eyes and 'hope for change' I guess..

Not a rodeo guy... just watched a couple of movies.

There are no idiots on this forum. There is an important piece of advice that I wish to extract form the Desiderata,
“…Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their
story.”

We have no authority to assign labels of “dull” and “ignorant”… or “idiot” for that matter. We make these assignments based upon our perception of our place in the argument. More times than not, we feel we are in the superior position.

…which leads me to borrow again from the Desiderata,
“If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or
bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons
than yourself.”

Intellectual vanity is the visage of a closed mind. You are the sum of your experiences. Have more experiences.

Nor can I. Sorry I implicated you... I wasn't directing that at you specifically.

It would be helpful if the members of the forum avoided personal attacks and just made their cases. HOWEVER, I am weaving through the obstacles and learning on this forum.

For each post, I weigh the words against Constitutional provisions, or sound science, or reasonable and accepted philosophy, or Judeo Christian values (sometimes I do research before I post). Some folks offer wild theses but provide no germane argument... eliciting frustration from those who seek rational debate.

Perched on the back row, I realize that some forum members are more ensconced than others (me) and that some of this must be repartee. I've figured out that some of you know each other outside of the anonymity of the internet. My naivety is further compounded by not having enough history on this forum to effectively sort the jocular from the sober posters.

That said, I will try to lighten up. Or you can vote me out of the club.

Keep on posting! I've learned a few things fron you...included some words I've never heard before.
