We're coming up from Louisiana for our annual vacation next, but I'm worried about how low the water level is. Do we need to be prepared to be sorely disappointed, or just how noticeable is the lower water level?

Follow the threads below. Some docks are unusable. Instead of 155 feet of water at the rock it will be 150. No biggie. Instead of 6 feet over some rock bars it will be 2 feet and take your hull off.
Be careful.

The water is very low. You most likely will be dissapointed. I just looked and it was September 27th of last year before it was as low as it is today. That being said, there is still plenty of water to enjoy the lake. It just makes life a little more difficult for those of us that have places up in sloughs and you have to be very careful not to run up on something that normally would be under water.

You do need to be more careful, but you can still enjoy the water. My standard advice is to stay in the middle of the lake as much as possible, since most of the hazards are closer to the shore. Not every hazard shows up on the contour maps or has a buoy over it, so pay close attention to your surroundings. Things are not so bad that you can't have a good time, so come on up and enjoy yourselves.

The Lake and its surrounding environment can best be enjoyed at slow speeds and with a depth finder. The two mixed should ensure a pleasant and safe visit.
I can understand others wanting to ski and similar fun water activites.
This may not be the year for those great activities unless you are very familiar with the Lake.
Please enjoy.

Watch for color changes in the water. From blue/green to tan/brown indicates danger. It is not always close to shor or off a point, so watch that depth finder.
