There seems to be an inordinate amount of trash along Coosa Cty 20 between 259 and the lake. Don't remember it ever being this trashy.

Does the county clean it up on occasion? If so, does anyone know if the cleanup has been suspended?

As a community service I would be willing to spend some time picking up along a portion of the road (adopt a mile concept) but am curious as to why it - all of a sudden - has become so littered.

I sho didn't want to come back to Fungummery this afternoon....such a great weekend to be at the lake. Even hooked about a pound and a half crappie off the dock just puttering around....of course when he saw me he skedaddled, hook or no hook (their nickname is "papermouth", which is just an excuse for not landing him)...

I think the problem is the trash company. I found a lot of my trash all over an adjacent road recently and spent about an hour cleaning it up. Trash bags break as they dump them into the truck, the tops of the trucks aren't covered and as they zoom along the roads, it is blowing out.

I also noticed this happening along 63 one day. I was driving behind a trash truck and noticed stuff blowing out of the top and all over the roadway.

Calling the company is worthless. I think if we started a petition and presented it to the county we could get something done.

We live off of Hwy 2, it is DEFINITELY the trash company. I had to swerve off the road to avoid an entire bag of trash in the middle of my lane just after the truck had come down our street. I did call the company, left a message, they did not respond.

Which trash company serves your area?

Since we are weekenders we haul our trash back to town and don't use a service. What is the name and phone number of the company and I will try to call, for whatever it is worth. If enough complain maybe they will listen and correct the situation.

Advanced Disposal out of Tallassee. They use one truck and one driver. The truck has an automatic arm which picks up the cans, dumps the trash into the back and replaces the can (sometimes upside down) all without the driver getting out of the truck. Phone number is 8662520458.

Sunflower. I can't put my hands on their number at the moment. I may have torn it up after my last conversation with them. It's like talking in circles.

Sunflower was bought out by Advanced Disposal a year or so ago. They are not as responsive...no surprise.

Advanced Disposal is my trash collector here in (just outside of) Montgomery as well.

I'll give them a call, but other than the County Road 2 incident has anyone else eyewitnessed an instance of their "spreading the wealth"??

Thanks,

Nasreddin Hodja

I have a suggestion. On trash pick-up day, why not get a friend to follow the trash truck for a few miles and you and your digital camera or video camera can record the trash blowing out. I suspect even if the photos aren't crystal clear (because of the front window and the moving car), with enough photos or the video, that would assist the sheriff in enforcing the littering laws. And I suggest that people in Tallapoosa County do the same.

Not to mention the speed that they drive. Our road is in Elmore County: Lake Point and speed limit is 25, but they drive 50 or more

I noticed the same when I was driving home on Coosa 20 this weekend. When our local HOBO's group was active, we organized a clean up day for a couple of year's running, but I am not aware of any recent efforts to organize one since we bought our lots from APC. I would be willing to help on a clean up day, but if we want to do a serious job we need to pick a day and get the trash company to leave a bin for everyone to deposit into. Otherwise, we just need for everyone to take time out one morning to walk the road and pick up what they see and then dispose of their bags themselves.

I think complaints to the trash company & to Coosa County would be a good idea, but doubt the trash company will ever send out a crew to clean up after themselves. But we might threaten them enough to put a cover on their truck......

I will take a walk & pick up part of 20 on my next trip down, on the weekend of 3/21. Stop by and chip in when you can!

Paul
