I called CommLink to see about hooking up cable and internet at the lake.  Wow!!  $75.82 for basic cable and $39.95 for 5mg/1mg internet.

What other options are there?

Thanks!

It is crazy, we pay $145/month for same with Charter.  1st year was $99/month, but then goes up to standard rates.  No contract, so you can bail at any time.  Satellite options are ok, but don't offer a decent internet service IMO.

Depending on your cell carrier, 4G LTE "mi-fi" service might work for you.  Don't know about Apple phones but my Android  has a "mobile hotspot" capability that provides Internet access anywhere you can receive a 4G LTE signal.  If you are a full timer and use the Internet a lot, it might be cost prohibitive.  There may also be a purely mi-fi service available.  I know my company buys such a service from AT&T, with several devices (they are about the size of a pack of long cigarettes) sharing 100 gb per month.

Charter blew me away when we moved down in May. Paying $166 month for cable and internet compared to the $122 I was paying in Hoover which also included phone service. The set top boxes used here are all rebuilt so none of them have the card slot.

Let's face it. Charter has no competition on cable and internet.  Supposed to have 60 Mbs speed and most of the time is 12, but it works.

Just a thought.

We use DishNet for Basic TV service, and Verizon to access the Net over 2 phones and a tablet. We truly do not want or need anything more AT THE LAKE.

Full time at the lake?  Yes, more and better/faster,etc. etc..

By the way,, question for somebody who knows??  Can an AT&T ESP customer, using FireFox Browser, open a session at something OTHER than AT&T YAHOO??? As a default starting point?

For example, I want to keep AT&T as my ISP but I want FireFox to dump me onto a different HomePage than AT&T and the National Liberal Pump Your Vote cohort YAHOOOOOOO. Anybody??

LIBS rock with the truth and justice for all.

Now, open Firefox preference and you should see Homepage...type http://www.thesearch engine.com. All of the search engines are run by sharp libs. Don't confuse Firefox and FOX....they are Libs running Firefox.

Mack, I don't have ATT but I assume setting the homepage preference in Firefox should work since it is the browser that you set the search engine. I think you are usng ATT default browser.

Let us know if setting it works.

Jester,

If you are only getting 12 of your 60 megs, check your router, if you have one separate from Charter.  Routers make a huge difference.
