Catherine...here is a News flash for you. Wealthy people spend money on things they like to spend money on and that is ok. I think you are missing the point here. Kizma is clearly just toying with you and it's embarrassing to watch frankly. You muddle on with drivel about things you have heard or imagine and your obsession with RL just shines through. It's truly pathetic to watch. You need to find a life. Here is a bet for you though...I bet RL is going to be just fine, will keep right on developing and making money and brininging amenities to the lake folks like me enjoy. You think they are going to be in big trouble in 18 months. If I am right and 18 months from now they are doing just fine and clicking along you agree to just shut up about RL and move on...if not I will meet you for a drink and we can burn a RL flag or something, and talk bad about them and you can say "I told you so". And RL sucks and etc...deal?

Friday, November 8, 2013 at 3:45 at Catherine's Market (if its still there). If you don't show, I'll call Marquita to find out where you are. I prefer California chardonnays, and don't play hard to get. No dark socks with shorts, or the evening will end far too soon to be memorable.

I prefer Springhouse and I too enjoy a good Chardonnay. I like Cakebread if I am going that route. Perish the thought regarding fashion, I come equipped quite well, like old Ben I enjoy spending my money. Cheers!

Cakebread will do, and Springhouse it is. Don't be late, you only get one chance with Catherine.

Are either of you aware when Ben is to make the remainder of his $25,000,000 pledge to Children's Hospital in Birmingham? As I recall, he gave them $3,000,000 to kick off the campaign, have his name put on the building, and pledged the remainder "at some point in the future." They announced they will move into the new building next month, and expect occupancy in July and August. Are either of you aware when the additional $22,000,000 will be given to the hospital?

Catherine, I suspect Ben has been so busy reading your postings that he hasn't had the time to write the check for the 22million. Just be patient.

Its his minions who read the posts.

Why must he insist on putting his name on everything. Kind of like Schrusy. Is that narcissism, insecurity or what?

That is probably a pretty good job. It would deserve a VP title!

There are no more males to carry on the family name. The Russell name will end with Ben. His incredible arrogance probably has some share in it as well, but that is conjecture on my part. Any man who would rewrite history, with a straight face, likely has an undeniable element of narcissism as well.

quite honestly, much of what you state is "just conjecture" on your part. Ben Russell has done so much for the Alex City area that it seems surreal that he has to deal with ankle biters who are uninformed and bitter. I am glad he ignores such foolishness---and that is not conjecture, but a fact.

Its ALL conjecture, and it is ALL my opinion (take THAT, minions!) As I've said, I'm not here to gain favor or impress anyone. If you don't agree with what I say, let me know, or use that ignore feature. It is the discussion that leads to the truth. Prove me wrong, and you win. Much of what I say will mean nothing to most folks. But it will mean everything to a handful of people. Those people are my target audience. You're nobody, so respond how you please.

being bitter, and uninformed is not, in my opinion, a sign of good health. However, you have the right to say what you wish. There is no provision for truthfulness or failing to have the facts in place to limit you in any way. I don't really need the ignore button, nor do I post much or care to. Your uninformed, personal attacks disguised as opinions serve no purpose but to color yourself for others to see, and they can do that. I wanted to share with you that there are many people on this forum who apparently know much more than your "conjecture" and are letting you spew to your heart's content. Silence does not equate to acceptance. Cheers, carry on your one person vendetta. I have no interest in it, but perhaps others may, fine with me. As for me paying any attention to your continued discussion, not so much......

I hope you've fooled yourself, because you haven't fooled me. But I wish you luck, I really do.

Catherine I called Ben and we chatted and he said he has a plan in place with the hospital that they are pleased with...he said he would be glad to discuss with you and you should call him. He is quite fond of bitter old ladies...oh and he said your rent is due.

I for a moment thought I was on the Off-Topics forum and Hound and h_hob were at it again!

Thanks goodness we had the foresight to buy a deeded lot and not have to worry with Peyton Place III......

I was thinking the same thing....thank goodness my granddaddy bought his 1.3 acres from them back in the day and I have no worries as to what or who or when dictates my lake happiness.  I do find these conversations just complete entertainment.  Too bad someone with real authority can not post a factual piece to inform us of the exact truth so all the rumors and "I heard" can be laid to rest.  But if that was the case then the forum would be boring and I would have no laughs.

We bought about 16 years ago and the guy selling it claimed it was a deeded lot - turns out at that time it wasn't, that he just had the option to buy it and if we didn't exercise that option when we bought it would forever belong to Alabama Power (not Russell).  It was a no-brainer decision.

Also the guy claimed there were no liens on the property.  We had John Kelly Johnson (the APCO assigned attorney for such transfers) do a title search anyway and sure enough, there was a $25K loan sitting out there....the seller was not a happy camper when that little fact was revealed at closing and his "take" was reduced by that amount.  Also found out from a neighbor that the seller had bought the rights to the property from his brother-in-law and had promised that it would never leave the family.  The guy was a real piece of work....
