What exactly would you have him do?

o-BAMA will do two things for sure:

1. Blame Bush for the whole thing.

2. And o-BAMA will do nothing. Why? Because he is incapable of making a decision on his own, and the puppet masters want the US to lose.

The crazy Persian must - at least for a fleeting moment - think there will be consequences that go along with his actions. So far there have just been sanctions - that only hurt the Iranian people. And based on the news reports about the way they handle protests and protesters they don't give a potter's danm about the Iranian populace.

I think Reagan had the best approach....especially when he dealt with Kaddafi (sp). The opposition just never quite know what he would do - as evidenced by our sending F-111s over to bomb them.

In my opinion he must have strong words -- backed up by a surprise military action of some sort -- maybe a drone dropping a bomb on his quarters just for effect. Unlike us, Iran cannot project its power much beyond its borders - and what would they do in retaliation? Bomb Israel? I think in spite of his rhetoric, the diminutive demon for Tehran has better sense than to open that front.

Just some thoughts. I know that at this point words are useless.

I suspect we are on the sidelines, for the immediate future. I also suspect that Israel is not.

I'm personally in favor of bombing Iran back into the 15th century, but we'd have to deal with that collateral damage thing again. Israel probably won't have the same concern.

The problem with that approach is that there is a goodly portion of the Iranian citizenry that would like nothing better than to have the Islamic extremists disappear and go back to a more western lifestyle. I had a delightful Iranian Air Force Captain in my class at Squadron Officer School - but he was "one of the Shah's men". He probably didn't survive the Islamic takeover. There were about a half-dozen Iranian officers in my staff school at Keesler at the time of the overthrow of the Shah. They were great guys but were very concerned about their future when they returned. If it were only those experiences I might write it off, but when I was sitting at an outdoor cafe in Seoul, Korea in 1988 we struck up a conversation with a group at another table who spoke English but were obviously not American. When we asked them where they were from they said "Iran......unfortunately". That one statement said a lot.

It may be that those who pooh-pooh our support of Israel will have a significant amount of crow to eat if the little tinhorn dictator overdrives his headlights and provokes a response. If so, it will not be pretty. Israel understands something that apparently we have forgotten: to survive one must fight.
