I heard that Bass Pro Shops wanted to build in Alexander City because of Lake Martin but were kept out because the City Council told them they would not be able to sell Boats, so they went to Prattville.

That is laughable and certainly not true. There is no interstate in Alex City...no chance...would have been cool though....

I highly doubt that to be the case. Being very close to water doesn't seem to be a requirement for their locations. Also, when you consider the amount of traffic on Hwy 280 vs I-65, Prattville is a much better location than Alex City

That would have been a great place for it. I was down there last summer for the first time in a few years and could not believe how much the area had grown.

There was more to it than that but yes, that was a big part of it. But even if they had been allowed to sell boats they probably wouldn't have built here due to other restrictions and demands that were placed on them.

I know that I'm probably missing something here, but why would BP not be able to sell boats? (Surely there is a logical answer.)

Yes it is true, and according to the Bham news this morning it should be open in about seven months. I can't wait!
