Call a supplier and ask them who they are getting most of their sales from and who they reccommend. They will tell you who installs their product correctly and probably at the best price.

I recently found out that Alex City has a company in the industrial park in the north end of the county that sells the metal roofing cheaper than anyone else. Cheaper by half from one quotes the fellow got from another supplier. He also told me when they quoted a price it is complete with Ridge cap, flashing, eaves, screws, boots for vent pipes and even the 1x4's needed to complete the installation. I haven't confirmed it but he had no reason to lie to me. He is a contractor in Bham that came down here to do some work for a family member that lives around the corner. The name of the company is A&E.

I have installed two, yes, two new metal roofs within the last 7 years. The first was supplied by the company mentioned and started failing within the first two years. I cannot prove it, but I suspect that the installer that I had simply provided the least cost everything that covered the roof. No flashings, reused boots, wrong screws, etc, etc. Disaster for maybe 5 years of patching leaks.

Second roof was from the same company, A&E, but a much higher grade of metal. It also included ridge vent seals (think Red Wasp nests), eave molding and seals (think Red Wasp nest), special screws, et al.

The diff was the guy who installed the second roof. He knew what he was doing and the result was obvious. He will not allow me to share his name, or I would recommend him. Tallasee boy.

Point is. When you spend the thousands of dollars to buy a metal roof, the contractor who installs it is the main key. A&E makes different grades of roofing, at all prices. Get a trusted roofer who knows what he is doing.

Greal advice and good info. I will keep that in mind when I replace one this fall. Proper installation of anything is always the key to good performance,no matter what the product.

Here is a cut and paste. Read it before you discuss a new roof. Installation and gauge of roofing is important. Some installers cut their own from rolls.
