Does anyone know the age requirements/restrictions for children? I have 12 and 15 year old boys who I would like to be able to drive PWC(both) and boat (15 year old only). Of course, I would monitor how, when and where they would drive. Just trying to get the kids started...not giving a free rane.

your not from Alabama, if you are, then you may not have the appropriate certification yourself, or you'd know the answer.

and remember, it might not be your kids you need to worry about, could be how capable they are to react to some other kid driving his boat that shouldn't be, oh yeah, and the adult goomba's we all worry about.

If you were under 12 years of age as of January 1, 2002: You may obtain your Alabama Boater Safety Certification after you turn 12 years old. After obtaining the certification, you may operate a vessel only if a person 21 years old with a valid Alabama Boater Safety Certification is onboard and in position to take immediate physical control of the vessel. After you turn 14 years old, you may legally operate a vessel without supervision. assuming you have your boater safety certification.

If you were 12 years of age or older as of January 1, 2002: You may obtain your Alabama Boater Safety Certification. After obtaining the certification, you may legally operate a vessel without supervision.

If you obtained certification by January 1, 2002: You may legally operate a vessel without supervision regardless of your age.

There is a great pamphlet: "Alabama Boating Laws and Regulations"

They have them at the courthouse, and at many marinas. It gives a concise summary of all of the boating laws, and the associated fines if you break the law.

Good luck ... and like the song says .... "teach ... your children well ... "

all of these requiremnents are addressed in the adutl boating course...offered for free and a REQUIREMENT unless you are older than I ma...BUT...I took the course anyhow just to ss how unifomred I really was instaed of being int he majority around here and thinking I knew all there is/was to know about baoting..

as evidenced by many of the post...not just this thread..

Read the book..take the course...what else is there???

It also defines requirements for out of staters...but doenst relieve any responsibility..
