Rice Boat Docks

I'm trying to track him down.

I paid him $10,000 down in August 2007 to start building me a boat house. He went and spent the money and never bought the material. I guess he figured he'd use the downpayment from the next job to buy my materials but presumably there WAS no 'next job'.

The dock was supposed to be completed by March 2008. As of today, 16 months after I gave him 10k, he hasn't even bought the material or even started on it.

His office number is disconnected. His home number is disconnected. His cell phone is not disconnected so I leave messages which never get returned.

I can't find or reach him. If anyone knows how I can get ahold of him I'd appreciate it.

If I were in your shoes I would write this off as a learning experience. Always thoroughly check out those you intend to do business with, before you give them your money.

FYI. I've done business with him many times before. You may be in a position to 'write off' $10,000 but I'm not.

I understand there is a Sale Sign on his business property now. He doesn't return calls. I guess it's time to put a lien on his property to get my money back.

As someone else noted, this may be theft by deception. Maybe the Winston County Sheriff needs to get involved. He can rot in prison for all I care.

You know you and I don't see eye to eye on everything, but I certainly don't like to see anyone get shafted.
If you think his property is for sale, I would certainly put a lien on it. Many good people are in very bad finacial shape now but if he sells the property you may have no recourse.

I've been in contact with two recommended attorneys. Neither has returned my call. It must be something in the water down there. I always have problems getting subcontractors to show up or return calls... but I can't even get an attorney to call back. Sheesh. I guess I'll keep trying. I have a couple more recommended names.
