Actually, Alabama Power and the forum have begun quoting "mean sea level" instead of the customary "Martin datum". That means the full lake level is not 491' not the 490' we are accustomed to. We're right on the rule curve for this time of year.

Definitely not the highest level I have seen even from last year. I use my floating dock as a gauge and last year it was level with my permanent dock. Today it is a little lower by several inches.

Can we assume that all level quotes will now be based on the 491 / 484 full/low pool?

I will say that all official levels will be quoted in msl., but I'm sure there will be some news media or website somewhere that will never adjust. APCO changed to msl., to meet requirements from FERC, and everyone gets data from APCO so you'd think it's a done deal.

I say let's go with it. We can now start the discussion of "Why does APCO NEVER reach 491 and leave it there?"

Thank you for that info. I have been a "weekender" for 48 years and have witnessed alot with lake levels. Not being there to see the effects each day brought on my comment. Thanks for the wisdom on the changes...

I get that question a lot, it's a logical one. I wrote this on my blog. It says essentially the same things that have already been mentioned, but maybe some might find it helpful: 490 or 491?

If you look at the lake level map you will see that in November the rule already shows 484.
