LOTO was unreal!! Seriously serious boats by the buckets full. MY WAY tied the record of 208 3 times and had 2 passes where the radars did not read the speed!! Many are thinking consperiousy Lol. Sorry for all who read this as I am extremly tired and wore from driving almost 700 miles all night, only to work on more boats today. Anyways I am trying to figure how to post pics, but there was some wild stuff there. Skater Nor Easter blow a tranny out the bottom of the boat and almost sank before getting on the trailer, Mary Mac was another turbine boat in contention for the title, but was cut short when she caught fire!! The wildest boat there was a 25 daytona that had a 3.0 toyota motor that ran 117 on E85, yes folks that is not a typo!! I will post pics shortly. Oh and PS the Alabama boys brought home two world titles in 2 26 cats, one was a Naturally aspirated 565 that ran 110, the other was a blown 598 that ran 123!!

Simple, they dont like our kind round here. Look at that, thats a 50 Mistic running 208, people here have a heart attack to see a 25 running 60!! Its too bad though, LOTO is the single busiest event on Ozark, locals told me they make more money that week than all summer combined. Kowiliga bay would be the ideal place to do it too!!

Seeing as to how my brain is mush and I cant seem to figure out how to post pictures, a little help would be great. But to tell all, there way a 25 Southbay there with triple 300 mercs, yes triple 300s, boat ran back to back 106mph. I like to fell off the back of my boat, it just looks wrong, and mind you this thing was decked out, seats and the whole nine!! When she came idling in the front 6 ft of log was outta the water Lol.

I would love too. LOTO Shootout has made the Rescue Organization there one of the most richest NP organizations in the COUNTRY!..... It is an Organized "Run what you got" "what technology is there", :"grass roots" "Grab your throttles" program, very well put together "Charity" fund raisers ever. Classes for Pontoons, Bass Boats, V-Hulls, Cats, whatever. Really. Jeff Harris (HPHQ on the board) had the time to go this year. I am sure he will tell more. Lake Martin has potential (spell) to have the same thing. People would travel from Hundreds of miles. Hotels would be full. Businesses would boom for a couple of weeks. It would put Aquapalooza in its place. NO DOUBT!.... Yea, sometimes progress just takes a back seat. LOTO is really a good thing. I have been following it for years. Much information comes from it. I think we should have it from "Power lines to 63 Bridge". Juss sayin'.

Talked to a friend that grew up going to Lake of the Ozarks. He visited there last year and said he couldn't believe that a lake could be so ruined so quickly by houseboats and fastboats, all run amuck. Lake has 7 times as many properties, not counting boats that dump sewage, fertilizer, etc. into the lake and has totally ruined one of the best lakes in the nation, not even counting the noise.
No thanks, not here. Take it to Guntersville Lake, they'll love you up there.

The fast boats show up for one week of the year, so i doubt they are the root cause of the downturn of the lake. I have never seen a lake so over developed in my life, makes Destin or PC look like childs play. Another case of the wrongfully accused.

I don't know about that. Fast/Big boats are already banned on LM. That didn't seem to bother the LM Gods when Big/Fast were briefly allowed for Aquapaloosa?? What's wrong with the idea? Especially in view of the impact on business around LM. Sounds like a lot of fun to me for 1 weekend a year.

That Lake Martin has not been ruined by idiots on PWC's and wakeboard boats tearing up the shoreline and menacing piers while seeing nothing other than their craft and someone on the end of their rope, or fishermen in bass boats throwing lures into upholstery. If certain classes of boats should be banned, those classes should be determined not by the will of developers, or a bunch of arrogant NIMBY's but by safety. You will note that I blame the operator, not the machine, and I realize that concept is not PC in this country anymore....

I have never been to a lake like that, there was some odd 135 bars, putt putt, go karts, theme parks, water parks, lazer tag, etc. High rise condos and motels everywhere, also have never seen more boats and boat slips/ houses in my life. I cant count how many 50 to 60 foot cruisers we saw there, it was wild. Relaxing?? Not so much, but fun?? Heck yeah!!

HP HQ acknowledged the overcrowding at Lake of the Ozarks, but he implied all the fast boats leave; they don't. My friend said he was afraid to boat on the lake, and he is an accomplished long term boater, because of all the fast boats weaving in and out at high speeds. He said there are thousands of fast boats there all year, which is where a few on this forum want to take Lake Martin. There are plenty of lakes like Lanier, Smith, Logan Martin, Guntersville, Eufaula, and the Gulf Coast that you can take your fast boat and noise and have your fun with your peers and groupies.

Who in their right mind would just turn ANY boat loose without a skipper? The fool several years back at Acapulco Rock was piloting a Ski Nautique cutting through traffic and swimmers - who should I blame - the operator or Correct Craft? Two idiots on Waverunners collided on Sandy Creek about four years ago - blame Yamaha or the operator who cut in front of his friend? Give me two fast boats passing my 18' boat or PWC anytime over a couple of wakeboard boats coming at me - I am better able to handle the MUCH SMALLER wake from the go fasts.

What he is describing is a problem with population density - if you want to control that, you do so by limiting the NUMBER of boats, not the TYPE of boats. How about limited access, close the shoreline to further development, and limit ramp access to permitted crafts?

A lot of people look at things like LOTO, and all they see are the loud fast boats, but the reality is that this is a nationally watched event that many modifications and designs are proven on a real world scene with all eyes on them. Engines are tested here, hull designs are tested here, keep in mind there are bass boats, pontoon, PWCs, etc. I know several people on here could care less about speed, but speed equal efficiency, efficiency equal economy, and these are things the world cares about. I ask, if I had 2 pontoon boats with same motors, and one was 10mph faster, wouldnt you probably want the faster boat?

Yes sir, Im am not a master of words but will try to explain. If we have like boats with like motors and one is faster, the faster boat is more efficient. Now that could be in the weight, drag, aerodynamics, hull design, etc. Either way the faster boat can be faster, or can accomplish the same goal with less motor, and that makes the vessel more efficient. Also along with this efficiency come fuel efficiency hand in hand.

HP, now you're showing your colors. To you speed is the great goal in a boat which is true only to those who seek speed as the ultimate goal. Speed is easily obtained by building a very light weight flat bottom boat, but they ride terrible and will not take waves or chop. A couple of manufacturers of pontoon boats have developed wide flat bottom center tubes which increase speed significantly, but at a price, and that price is a decent and quiet ride.
For some speed means everything, but to say that boat designs are built with one thing in mind is not correct. Boat speed only means something to a very small segment of the industry. Got a death wish, do it in an overpowered bass boat.

I could not agree with you more, depending on the ultimate goal of the boat depends on what and how the boat is constucted, seems to me that the general class of boats and boaters are looking for a happy medium between performance and ride quality, along with the obvious looks, layout, etc. With that being said most all boat builders or manufactures are always trying to have an edge over there competition and that is where they sink most of there development time into it. I can not tell you how many customers I have had through the years that in certain situations have really wanted a faster boat, and they normally do so,the story typically involves getting caught in a storm the boat could not out run, or something happening that they needed to get home in a hurry. As for me and showing my true colors, it is no secret that I love speed, its my drug, its also my lifestyle, along with keeping a service and repair shop that takes care of many boats and boaters on Martin for many many years now.

I don't see where a HUGE local fundraiser/entertainment venue has anything to to with over crowding properties, houseboats, go-fast boats, or anything like it for the long term effect! Boaters and spectators traveled from ALL OVER the Country to participate or witness the event. Really they did, and will. They come in for a few days, visit, spend money at local businesses, show what they want to whether it be a Bass Boat, Pontoon or whatever. Personally, I would love the week before, performing work for out of towners, and getting all of the local boats ready to go watch. Hosting displays, gatherings, etc. As would Jeff, Still Waters, Blue Creek, Russell Marinas, etc. Some of the go-fast boats are on tilt trailers, and pay $200 just to have someone pick up the boat with a fork lift and place it in the water. And of course, it has to be takin' out as well. Deposit another 200 bucks Ben. I'll bet Vinings, or Russell would love that revenue! Imagine all the local (and struggling) restaurants being packed for several days. NO VACANCY at Alex City Hotels. No vacant slips at Marinas for a week. Maybe a business has to hire a little extra help that week??? Anyway, I think this thread took a bad turn. Compare this to Aquapalooza! Nope, cause according to what I have read on this thread, there would be Live Bands, Huge raft-ups and property would be sold everywhere and we would be overcrowded. Hhhhmmmm. Overcrowded already in my opinion at times. "Is Lake Martin ever gonna have an event as big as LOTO". Nope, it would take years to develope it to that. However, on a smaller scale think of it this way. EM already speaks of speed and effeciency on his pontoon. I like go fast boats, but my Master Craft has a Corvette LT1 engine, and my new Cat isn't that fast. More Horsepower at a slower speed equals better fuel management ANY day. You read this stuff all the time. Sorry for the long thread.
Respectfully, Steve

I know both Catboat and HP HQ own fast boat mechanic shops, but exactly what don't you understand about the fact that large, over 27 foot, fast boats are illegal on Lake Martin. Catboat, didn't you post on here a few years ago that you and your group had spent over $100,000 trying to get the law overturned, took it all the way to the AL Supreme Court, and lost at evey level. Seems you would realize these boats are illegal. Move on.

What is the problem with the houseboats? They normally travel around 6-8 mph and they are required by law to dump at a dump station just like all boats. They allow you to move from lake to lake instead of cruising the same waters all the time. It is a great way of life with family and no grass cutting.

OK, what is it about 26'11" long and 150mph that you don't understand???? We stand for a speed limit. Of 60 mph, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DRIVE! Also, Idle speed only at dark. Bump head on at idle speed, drunk or whatever and you prolly want be hurt, god forbid killed. Maybe just a few curse words. But, this is an issue that I really have moved on from, and do NOT care to talk about. My new boat will not go 60. I still say, and event like LOTO would be good for the economy. At least for a shot in the arm for a week. Remember, I am self employed and worry. You don't have to like what I like, it is fine with me. BUT, if I can help you with what you like, let me know..... Lake Martin is my home, I have been here for over 14 yrs now and Im not going anywhere unless I want too. I have fast boats customers from Canada to the tip of Florida, and west of Houston Texas. I also service literally hundreds of families boat that are on this lake from pontoon to PWCs to bass boats. This is my home, this is where I make a living, and I will continue to do this untill I am no longer able.

I, too, would not have a place on LM if it looked like Lake of the Ozarks, or Lanier for that matter. Overcrowding from boats/people or pollution result from the density of development along the shoreline. That has not happened, yet, but it could. And a yearly one or two day event for boat racing enthusiasts has absolutely nothing to do with it. Those who choose not to watch or participate could simply not attend. If we are so concerned with noise, danger, too many boats,,,, maybe we should consider abolishing the 4th of July fireworks??
