What a beautiful day.  Took a friend and family fishing along with my visiting granddaughter, came back to our cabin for lunch and swiming, then went to Goat Island so the kids (6, 6, 10, 11) could pet the goats, and stopped by Chimney Rock to WATCH some folks jump off, then went back to the cabin so the kids could swim some more.  Partly cloudy, temps inthe 80s, just a fantastic day on a fantastic lake.  The Lord has blessed us with this jewel.

If people had to correctly identify Chimney Rock or else be permanently banned, the lake would be MUCH less crowded.

I have known for years that "The Rock" that everyone calls "Chimney Rock" is actually Acapulco Rock and the real Chimney Rock is a few hundred yards upstream. Don't see the need to try to correct the 99.9% who refer to it by the wrong name....

Not to be argumentative, but Chimney Rock is definitely downstream from Acapulco Rock.  But like you I use the wrong name also, but it kinda means the whole area, to me at least.

Just re-read your post.  Went to Google maps and found something interesting...it lists Chimney Rock ISLAND and Acapulco Rock ISLAND, with Chimney Rock Island showing to be much bigger than Acapulco Rock Island.  Because of its relatively dimunitive size compared to Chimney Rock Island, Acapulco Rock (aka "Chimney Rock" for jumping purposes) Island is both downstream AND upstream of portions Chimney Rock Island.  That being said, the smaller rock outcropping from Chimney Rock Island is downstream of the Acapulco Island outcropping used for jumping and misamed "Chimney Rock".  Go figure!

Only on this board could you post something about having a wonderful day, and then have people quibble about the name of a rock.  It's days like the one you described makes being on the lake worthwild.  What a memory for you grandchildren!!

Yes, indeed.  A day she will remember for a long time.  And one of our guests (10 yr old) excitedly said before we left that he had never been on a boat, so she wasn't the only one having fun.  Got to get those pontoon logs acid washed, though.  Suffice it to say we mashed our way through the water there and back.  Gliding smoothly would be better, faster, and a lot less expensive gas-wise!

when my 6 yr old grand visits  ( not often enough), we always hit goat island & never miss feeding the calves at Blue Ribbon Dairy- used to putt putt at Childrens harbor but the little course is in horrible condition

on Chana Creek road, kent--about 1 mile off HWY 229--they let you bottle feed calves around 4 pm--call first for days--also sell ice cream & great milk--no dogs allowed

Good post, probably a day they will never forget.  Made me think of my Mom and Dad taking me and my brothers by Kowaliga grocery store for ice cream and a comic book and then on to Chimney Rock.  We would watch people go off the swing there and I finally got big enough to climb all the way up to the Chimney.  Remember when Chimney Rock was a happening place before everyone moved over to Acapulco Rock.  Was a lot smoother boat ride up there back then; lot less boats and surfing was only done in the ocean.  Guess I'm getting old but the memories sure have lasted.

We had all 5 grandchildren last weekend.  We knew it was going to rain but with schedules we didn't know if another weekend would happen where we could get all five together.  We got them Friday evening and they occupied themselves with their video games.  We fed them a nice breakfast Saturday morning then took them to the Lake Martin Creamery about lunch time.  When they got restless about mid afternoon we told them they could go swimming, even though it was rianing.  There were no storms or lightening of any kind.  It did anything form misting to downpours while they played on the splash pad.  They wanted to go tubing but I drew the line at that while it was raining hard but once the radar showed a break late afternoon we loaded up and took them tubing.  It really only rained on us for about 5 minutes, the rest of the time it was just misting but still could get unpleasant and the clouds broke and we actually had blue skies for a while.

I guarentee this will be the weekend they talk about for the rest of their lives.  They had a blast and thought it was really cool to get to swim and tube in the rain.  Me and the boss never got off the boat but you couldn't tell it. When we got back we were as wet as the kids.

Great memories for all of those young folks. It's my turn this weekend and the grands all requested a trip to Chimney Rock. I'm not going to get pickey with them about the official name, maybe when they are older they can figure it out. For now we will just have fun.

We never had children, so no grandchildren, but my neighbors do.  The kids are out in the water swimming and having a great time.  I frrequetly comment to my husband that we are watching great childhood memories in the making.  I love seeing the pictures of the kids on Goat Island interacting with the goats.  You just know those kids will always remember that and talk about when they arre our ages.
