Two guys in a john boat are cutting trees on the unoccupied shoreline with the tops falling into the lake. Anyone know what's going on? Is someone starting to develop the property? Kinda strange to see activity over there.

Lived on this lake since 1963 and nothing strange about what you saw! Last house was in a RL development new neighbors had questions about me placing christmas tree under and around my pier. They were afraid they might draw cotton mouths to the slough. LOL I was always told When you are in Rome you do as romans. Then the rains came and then the driftwood came just like it had since 1927. The sough would fill up when the west wind blew then go away at night. It was their opinion that Alabama power should come and take it out of the lake. I politley pointed out about the 15 foot easment on each side of their lot lines. Just for access to the lake and they were at the back of the slough. Was amazing how quickly the driftwood was no longer a issue! LOL again You newbies keep it up and you will be there with a bunch just like you. Then something you like to do will become a issue with a newbie.. I like it when some out of towners come and get on a committee. Then they have a issue and the first thing they say is " Well where i come from we did this or that. I like to ask when i got the chance now why did you come here? Their reply usally was well i go tired of all the crap so i moved to the lake. Yep when you are in Rome to do as roamans! LOL

You make a lot sense. We just need to be thankful that we have beautiful Lke Martin to enjoy. Sure, just like anything else there are a few things here and there that may need to be fine tuned, particularly from a safety point of view. There are always some who fail to respect the "laws of common courtesy", but let's hope that we can do a better job of agreeing to disagree. Looking forward to an early SPRING!

I have been here 51 years and happen to believe that disrespecting the property rights of others (yes, to include Alabama Power) should never be normalized. The individuals in the john boat may well have been acting on proper authority but if they were not and just randomly toppling trees to improve their fishing then that is wrong--wrong is wrong. I'm old...I'm tired...GET OFF MY LAWN!

A few years ago RL sent out a publication that what the TWO Guys in a boat were/are doing is perfectly all right as long as nothing on RL lands is less than 6 inches or so. I am not positive as to the 6 inches but i am very close.
Some here would love to see this lake a privte homeowner only lake. Some think their views are the only one that count such as loud music, bright lights, wake boats, trash on the beach and so on. Not the lake i grew up on but neitheris our country.

Alabama Power just clear cut I don't know how many acres of woodland here last Fall. None of it was on the water, so the boat scenerio doesn't apply. If it is Alabama Power land, did you call Alabama Power and report it? A lot of poeple around the lake seem to belive that anything they want to do on Alabama Power property should be okay - yet there is a liability factor and respect for property. I pretty much believe in a live and let live policy, but when you find soemthing distrubing that you pretty much believe is wrong, then it is best to say something. When I see landscapers dumping in our woods or anyone dumping trash, I report it.

That land is in preserve status and should not be touched for any reason. Also Alabama Power boats are usually very well marked. I seriously doubt AP would send a crew out to cut trees in a Jon boat.
Just an FYI, there ia fairly large number of Fox squirrels on that peninsula. We have spotted them in several different areas while cruising the shoreline. Coincidentally we have also seen a fox there.

Oh how cool. I have only seen one fox squirrel since we have been here and it wasn't around the lake. I would love to see some more of them. Now,we seem to have a local fox over here and I see him periodically. We used to have a den of foxes up behind our house, but I think my dogs have urged them to move on.
While we are on the subject of wildlife - this is coyote breeding season. The males become more aggressive during mating season, so best to watch your dogs and cats to make sure they don't end up as prey. My coonhounds here them and want to go out, but all they ever do is stand on the porch and talk trash with them.

The trees are down in the Manoy and Young’s Landing area as well. I have been on this lake for 25 years and have never seen this many big trees along the shoreline cut like this. These are tall trees and this seems very hazardous since they reach so far into the lake! If anyone out there gets any updates on whether this is AP or not please let us know! If it was illegal, someone needs to investigate!
