At least they are consistent and keep doing silly things that keeps the SJW's in the forefront.  What really bothers me though is this idea that the employees of an NFL team have the right to do whatever they want and that this is a 1A issue.  Nothing could be further from the truth and anyone that shares that view has been failed by the education system or slept through their civics class.  Employers have the right to enforce workplace rules and employees who don't like it have the right to work elsewhere.  Any of my employees that do something that alienates our clients and harms our business can expect to be disciplined and if they don't comply, terminated.  There is no doubt that the kneeling has harmed the NFL's business and they have every right to enforce this workplace rule.  

But this is just the beginning of yet another nightmare season for the NFL as the activist players will once again take a knee to show how brave they are in standing up for their rights.  And more fans will be alienated and it will hurt the bottom line once again and then it is rinse and repeat.  Not only that, but they will probably get sued and some activist judge will side with them and this will be all over the press for months.  Goodell could have nipped this in the bud when it first started to happen but he is a gutless wonder and has made a mess of things.

WOuld be better to discourage the kneeling if it was 15 yards per person applied to each punt return.

I can see it now, team A has 175 yards to go for a touch down and starting in Lot23 of the parking lot.

I just wish I hadn't quit watching professional sports decades ago so I could quit watching now. A one time 15 yard penalty will mean nothing and if the fines aren't 7 figures, which they won't anywhere close, they won't be a deterrent either. If I was a coach I would immediately suspend every player who kneels without pay for the game,but that will never happen. I do look forward to reading about the ratings decline each week again this season though.

I agree with you completely.  The best way to put an end to meaningless virtue signaling is to ignore them.  If they didn't get the attention they would get back to smoking dope and driving their new Lamborgini with their entourage.  The mishandling of this from day one by the NFL has been breathtakingly pathetic.  Why Goodell still has his job is a mystery to me.  I suspect it is primarily because of the  TV contract that is now killing the networks given the lower ratings.  Next time around will not be so pleasant for them or the owners and players.

I don't support kneeling. However, you are somewhat disingenuous comparing an employee of your firm and a NFL player. These guys are making millions per year and have a direct impact on winning and losing compared to an employee of your Company earning a $100,000 with minimal impact on your results. Your employees I assume are at will while NFL are under a Union agreement. It is a different animal.

Goofy, that is the most incongruent argument you have made in a long, long time.  Their pay rate is immaterial to the fundamental right of a business to establish norms of behavior for their employees regardless of their pay rate.  The fact is I can lose a client due to the actions of a technician making $18 per hour just as easily as a senior consultant making $175K per year.  In fact, it is more likely for a technician to cost us a client relationship than one of our senior people.  Pay rate is immaterial.

And think about this fact.  Very few players participated in the protests and yet they alone had a significant impact on the ratings of the NFL since this started.  In 2017 ratings were down almost 10%.  In the ratings business that is a huge drop and dramatically impacts what the networks can charge advertisers and ultimately pay the NFL for the rights.

Personally, I would like them to keep on kneeling - kneeling their way to the destruction of the entire NFL.  People don't want political statements from the players, they just want to watch the damn football game.  

I totally agree that the employer has the right to set the standards for the workplace and the employees either comply or find another job.  It is only this generation that seems to think that their rights and desires supercede the rights of their employer, law enforcement and the white majority.  Most of them are out of the hood and "graduated" from college with little or no education.

Sometimes I worry about your critical thinking skills Goofy.  I'm not the one that brought up the salary issue, that was you.  My point, which was apparently lost on you, is that their salary doesn't matter.  What matters is that the stupid, pointless kneeling is hurting their employers bottom line and as a result, they passed this new equally stupid rule.  But as an employer, they have every right to do so and will have to decide what to do if some franchise player decides to test them.  But keep in mind, there have been lots of very talented players over the years that have lost their jobs due to misbehavior and regardless of their skills were not picked up by any other team.  And the key word here is "team".  One player can't win a Super Bowl by themselves.  And when or if it starts to hit the players pocketbooks we will see how dedicated they are to the cause.

Tell the players that thier salaries  will be cut by the loss in advertizing revenues on th TV contracts and see how many activist we have then. Obviously their union contracts would pevent that but it would show how dedicated theuy would be if they had some skin in the game.

I say the cdc, hhs, doe, and any other alphabet agency should just ban the game as a public health issue related to injuries, especially head injuries. Ban it all the way from peewee to Profesional and then let all the overpaid crybabies go into the free market and try to sell their particular set of skills for millions of dollars. Most would go back the the thug life in the ghettos from which they came.
