Back in 2000 I responded to a thread titled just like this one and adopted a beautiful black Cocker Spaniel, Sir Winston Nestle Prancer Jr. (PJ to his friends). I can't remember the ladies name but she brought him to us from an abusive situation. I don't know if you still read the forum or not, but I hope so. I just wanted to let you know that he has led a charmed life. He has cost me a small fortune through the years with vet bills. He has been on the verge of death twice, once from attack and once from swallowing a bone. He developed epilepsy and suffers from a horrible fungal skin infection. He takes several meds every day to control both of those and a thyroid condition also.
But sadly I am afraid that this may be his last summer with us. He is getting older and sicker. I had him at the Vet Saturday and we had to have 'the talk'. I hope he improves but it is not looking very good right now. I have to weigh his suffering against my own selfishness. I hope and pray that I know when the time is right.
I want to say thank you. PJ has been a joy to me for ten years now. In the beginning it took me a week to even be able to touch him. He was so scared of any male that came around. Eventually he learned to trust me, and even some other men as well. Now he suffers seperation anxieties when we are not together.
Once again, thanks.

That was so touching. I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face as I am reminded of my sweet Sammy. He was a true lake dog and a great best friend. I know it's tough to make the decision in the end but as long as you are with him, he will be ok. Good luck and I hope PJ has a good spring and summer!

What a sweet story. I feel your pain, having had to live through making that decision several times. Somehow, they always let us know when it is time and you will know in your heart. It's the last loving thing we can do for them.
I hope that PJ has some time yet.

You play the hard "A" on here at times but I know for a fact, ANY one who loves animals the way you show you do in this post are the best people in the world.
Sorry to hear of your best friends problems. I pray peace for you and the puppy. My thoughts are with you.

I know how you feel and wish you the best - we lost Rush on January 1, 2003 - had to put him down after a fight with renal failure. I have to get a drink now - I will be raising a glass to him in about two minutes and will include PJ in my wishes...

We lost our 15 year old Maggie (yellow lab) last year and I will tell you the 3 months after our loss had to be some of the toughest times of my life. But let me say time heals all wounds and today her ashes sit in our home and we rejoice about the great times we had and the joy she brought to all our lives and the life she lived!!!
In her final year lets just say we spoiled her rotten, she got any and everything she wanted (within reason), went to the lake every weekend, road in the boat every time she wanted to go and even though an outside pet, she was allowed in the house to spend quality time with the family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you !!!!
