Heavy rains through weekend could affect Alabama Power lake levels

Alabama Power
Posted: 12/27/2018

Alabama Power

Heavy rains forecast into the weekend and early next week could cause Alabama Power lake levels to rise in the coming days.

A flash flood watch is in effect through Friday afternoon for a significant portion of the state, with additional rains and thunderstorms forecast for Sunday and Monday.

The rains could result in some Alabama Power storage reservoirs on the Coosa, Tallapoosa and Black Warrior rivers reaching summer pool levels or higher. The rains also could lead to spillgates operating at some of Alabama Power’s hydroelectric dams.

Individuals with boats and other water-related equipment and facilities should stay alert to changing conditions on Alabama Power reservoirs and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.

For more information about Alabama Power lakes, download the new Smart Lakes app for your smart phone, or visit www.apcshorelines.com. Individuals can also call 1-800-LAKES 11 (1-800-525-3711) for lake condition updates.

It's really a disgrace the way we have accepted police killings as the new "normal".  I see no reason why we should create an expedited route for citizenship for illegals.  Some have violence in their souls, some have no educaiton or skills.  We should only let in those that bring something to the table that is desireable for the US.

But they can drywall, paint, build decks and basic lawncare - according to Antifatech.

I agree completely! We have enough of our own criminal element without alllowing illegal immigrants to enter our country. I see they have just arrested the illegal immigrant who "murdered" the young policeman in California. That young officer was a "legal immigrant" who went beyond "expectations" in his training to become an "admired" police officer.  The Christmas picture of his wife and young five month old son should bring tears to everyones's eyes. If Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Shumur, or anyone else for that matter should have a "loved" one murdered because "politics" are allowing illegal immigrants(many who are criminals) to come to America, are they going to accept that as "business as usual" and continue to "oppose" the need for greater border security that should include a wall, and/or fence, and any other type of technological means available to enhance security. The "wiill" of the people is being ignored because "elected officials" are allowing allegiance to their "political" party to "trump" their "duty and responsibility" for providing for the security of the people who have allowed them to become members of Congress.

Because if the water level goes over the pier again it will be murder to clean the fish muck and river scum off of it?

Seriously thanks for posting as I may have to move a mini fridge or two and some furniture out just in case it starts getting really high.

Thankfully Logan Martin is still at close to winter levels so has 5 feet to go and can hold lots of water - but I have seen it go up close to 8 foot overnight, and had to scuba out to the pier one year in a wetsuit to keep debris from punching holes through the window screens.

I remember our pier floating up. I had to go down and resert the pilimg and concret the pier underwater. That stoped it.

Have helped a few friends over the years when their floating piers got hung at the top of posts during winter floods.  unbolt a few brackets and anchor it and tie it off to a few trees till the waters go back down... then put it back together in the spring.

I like my fixed pier and boat lifts - but pressure washing the mud and fish slime off when it floods takes time not to damage the wood.  I can see the advanages of a float - but have seen too many free floating down the river.

Funniest was a few years ago there was what appeared to be a two car garage floating down river, even had two roll up doors - thought it had broken free somewhere - state patrol was towing it for someone.  Someone purchased the building added floats and pushed it into the water with a dozer to relocate it.  Amazed they were able to get it in the water without breaking anything.
