What will it take to get Coosa County to professionally repair/resurface county roads around the lake??

Taxes have been payed, same as last year. But a tar and gravel patch hundreds of times is not right.

Residents at Lake Martin around Parker Creek and Equality (County 20/24area) are paying higher than normal taxes for this area and definitely not getting proportinate services. ??

With a population of only about 11,500 people and the biggest employer being thier depatment of education, big towns like Goodwater, Kellytown and Rockford... The money is just not there.

What a joke! She never has to travel on gravel roads and black-top roads that have been repaired year after year. Do you really think she gives a crap what kind of roads you drive on? If for some reason it became necessary for her to travel on such a road, you would see an immediate resurfacing crew hard at work before her entourage arrived.

Have you driven on Coosa County 2 lately?  If boats aren't strapped to their trailer then there is no guarantee that it will stay there after a ride down that road, specifically after you pass the graveyard / Hick's Marine and the turn-off to go to Parker Creek Marina...

Your best hope is the new developement sanctioned by Russell at the end of T road. Not in Cossa county but you have to travel Cossa 2 to get there.

I just got my Jefferson county and Coosa tax notices.  It stated the miilage rate was .099 for Jefferson.  What is the millage rate for Coosa County?  The Coosa notice was a simple card that only contained the amount you owe....

I could not agree with you more.  I think the only thing that might get their attention is a petition signed by the residents.  It is ridiculous that they just keep patching the holes (which lasts a matter of weeks). I am the last house on my street, and the pavement has simply worn away before you get to my house.  One of my neighbors had to call for 2 years for them to come out and fix the drainage ditch.  I know it is a poor county and they have the "big" cities to worry about, but I suspect we don't get much attention because so many people are not full time.  Coosa 20 is not that bad, but all the roads off it are terrible. 

Paul Perrit ran on the ticket that he would get our roads fixed, but apparently after he got in office, he found out that it wasn't going to happen.

Has anyone asked Paul Perrit to come out to one of y'alls homes for a townhall type of meeting? We live in Tallapooas County and my wife went to visit our county commission representative about a couple of problems. They set up a line of communications for problems in our area. Try to get a meeting and see what happens. BTW....my wife was on the county commission in Gwinnett County, Georgia for 8 years.

Paul Perrett lives in the Parker Creek area not far from the marina and has to travel County Rd 2. He knows how awful the county roads are.

So much for plan A.... Lol. I feel for you guys cuz it ain't gonna get any better anytime in the foreseeable future. Sad but true. I don't k own about now but back in the 90's the largest income for coosa was hunting violation fines. Really really sad.

Plan B,  get the 3 liberals on the off topic forum to split the bill and pay for some tar and gravel. They don't we pay enough taxes and want raise them so let them foot the bill. I'm sure they will jump at the chance.

I drive it every day.  But take a left sometime on Hilltop and then make a left on Cedar and you'll see what I am talking about.  I was having a problem with my air suspension system in my car and was on my way to get it fixed.  I was on Cedar and Hilltop and thought that I would smash my head, before I got to 20.

Must be a Ford product.  Every now and then our Expedition air system gets cranky and doesn't inflate properly and it is like there is no suspension at all.  Feel every bump and some that aren't there.

Paul Perrit may travel the roads, but if he doesn't hear any complaints from his constituents, he's (or any politician) not going to do a darn thing. I'm married to a former county commissioner (GA) and it's a fact---those that complain the loudest and the longest get the results. Perrit will take money from another project to fix your roads just to get y'all to shut the hell up. It's not going to get any better so give it a try.

And another thing, "Coosa County Is A Poor County"---politicians will use that crap on you as long as you let them. It's their answer to any porject they don't like. When's Perrit up for reelection? That's the very best time (6 monts to a year in advance) to start raising hell about your roads or any other problem. Be vocal and rais hell if need be. Good Luck.

Thanks for you help Maddog, but it ain't that easy.  It will take money that County does not have.  They take care of Coosa 14 and some others because they are connectors and the stat strips show more usage.  And the County gets state and sometimes federal money for some roads and not others.  Have been to County Commission meetings with other residents.  We primarily complain about Coosa 2.  It was a dirt road for so many years and then, according to the County, became a paved road WITHOUT the necessary underpinings.  Fixing would require a total restart, and the County has the road on its own from Harmony Church/Hicks Marine on.  Up to that point the state helps. 

That being said there are now some business/development interests down road that have some funds and great benefit from a road fix.  To find funds to obtain some matching govt money (yes we do need govt for some things) is only hope.

Paul is a good man.  Wanted to fix the roads.  Now when Coosa 2 is really bad Paul's wife calls everyone who uses the roads and gives them a number to call to put pressure so we can at least get the Spitter Machine to patch a few spots.

Coosa County 20 is not bad at all. Pretty good in fact for being such a small road. I'm talking about the section from AL 259 (Fishpond Road) to the deadend at Eagle Point. The section from AL Hwy. 259 to AL Hwy. 9 is a completely different story.

I'm on Ivy Shores Ln. (formerly Lakewood Road), and this one has been patched two times in two years. I understand the money constraints, and appreciate that the county is at least staying on top of the situation. But could they AT LEAST bring a sweeper through here and sweep the LOOSE GRAVEL off to the side after patching????

I have two ways to get out of here, and both involve very steep hills. This Summer, just after the patching took place, I was pulling my boat out and could not get up the hill on Uppertrail Road due to all the loose gravel. I had to back down the hill, and go back around to the far end of Ivy Shores Ln, turn LEFT to the dead end, turn around and make a run for it up the hill on County 20!!! You talking about PISSED!!!

That hill on 20 is "breathtaking", especially if one walks it.  We used to have a key to that ramp years ago and pulling the boat back up the hill was always a challenge and deserved as much of a running start as one might muster.  Throw in a little loose gravel and it would be almost impassible without 4WD.
