guess everyone who has their service knows all the radio stations have vanished & monthly bill increased about $5.00; had interesting talk with GM as I was considering DISH--wanted to see if he wanted to keep me as a customer & I wouldnt have to go to trouble of reinventing my cable service--not worth the time of the phone call--got a dissertation on how competitive & unprofitable cable business is--said if he had his way, wouldnt enter Lake business again;; told him sounds like business model needs review or seek a buyer--interesting world

Only ball game in town. Did you get the letter saying they expect bandwdith to be increased by late summer with switching to AT&T backbone?

Lake Martin Satellite installed mine 2 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. My Internet is a bit slow at times but that's my fault. I need to trim some trees.

The HDTV and DVR are the best. I love it cause I can control my TV from my cellphone. I can change channels in the house or I can log on when I am away and schedule recordings.

Charter is has been real and its has been fun but, its aint never been REALFUN... see ya!!!

Tony,   Please let me know how fast your internet connection is?  You can go to this web site and see what your speed is.

Just as info for this thread, I have Charter.  I just used your speed test link and got the following:  41.04 Mbps download and 3.96 Mbps upload.  I have Charter's latest modem and am paying for fast internet.

Are those speeds consistent and dependable?  How much for that speed?

That speed was early this morning.  I doubt that it will be that high throughout the day.  I'll check some more and report back.  I have a bundle package from Charter and I'll have to dig in to find the price for the internet.

$49.99 for the internet.

Very reasonable if you stay even close to those speeds and dependable.  I have the low end of Com Link.  They were to make some changes, and things have been much better (knock on bandwidth)

I am on Charter in Montgomery.  I just tested with speedtest.net and got a download speed of 33.29.  Then I immediately tested with speakeasy.net, which someone gave on this forum a week or 2 ago, and got 15.64 download.  Both had my upload speed around 4.20.  Why the disparity in download speeds?

Don't really know the answer to your question, but I would guess it has to do with different speed checks are from different servers.  I did checks at 10:30 and got the following:

43.05 and 4.10 (Charter)
36.59 and 4.03 (Speedtest)
42.58 and $.08 (Speakeasy)

That $ should have been a 4.  Must have money on my mind.

That is a big shift, but even though you ran the tests one after the other, there may have been more bandwidth in use on the cable - you are sharing what is available with everyone else in the area - or it could be server location.  Even if the servers are in the same building, it is possible that the routes taken are different - one may take the quickest route, one may take a route suggested by my step mother-in-law, and go through Seattle on a trip from Dadeville to Jackson's Gap...

I have AT&T U-verse in Hoover and just compared the two speed test.  www.speakeasy.net (16.75 Mbps : 0.99 Mbps thru Atlanta) and www.speedtest.net (17.65 Mbps : 0.99 Mbps thru B’ham).  Very close plus I have the top Elite service with AT&T.  I fight with them every week plus they want to charge for everything.  Don’t ever use AT&T……

I mean no disrespect but I have to dive in here.  If I am to believe what I read in the latest issue of "lake Martin Living" you of all people should not be on here complaining about cable service.  I say this because I learned in that article that you sit on the City Council in AC.  The council is in control of who provides cable to the citizens via contract.  Why would you not use your position to bring the matter to the council and have new contract negotiations started?  You have to have read the Charter horror stories related on this forum through the years.  I don't know you personally and have respect for you through your postings. A little less for sure now after reading this thread and knowing that you are in a position to really affect change to the situation, yet do nothing but change your own service.  I realize everyone else has that same option, but why should they have too?  I am sure there are ways out of the current contract, as there are for most any contract.  You, and ALL politicians, are elected to lead, not sit on the sidelines.

Charter, in AC at least, is an abhorrent company.  Not just one but many horror stories about them have been related on these pages.  Mine is the worst I have heard and I will not retell it here again.  If you are interested you can contact me and I will be glad to relate it to you.

Once again, this is not intended as a personal attack, just an inquiry.  You can choose to ignore me if you wish.  I live in the Gap and can't vote for or against you.  However I will say knowing what I know right now, I would not vote for you.  Use the position you hold to lead and make a better circumstance for the citizens of not only your district, but city wide.  It would also help many others in the county as I am sure whatever new company came in would offer their services county wide.  It may take collaboration of the city and county governments, but it is doable, IMHO.

Thanks for reading my rant.

P.S.- Love your Honey.

I guess I will dive into the continuing Charter debate also.I have Charter (at the lake and in Hoover) and do not like them but from everything I read about speeds it seems that I am in the minority.  My Charter internet speeds run consistently between 15 and 40 Mbps with uploads between 2 and 4.  I do have their 30 Mbps service and these speeds are on WiFi which is always slower than modem speeds.

I,m not on here as a council member. But if you will call me I will gladly explain what I have been working on and have done in reference to your post. My number is listed in the paper or the Alex City website.

Understood, and really meant no disrespect at all.  I will call you as I would love to hear what is happening on this issue.  I loathe charter and will tell you why via phone.
