Does anyone know if there are any other options besides satellite internet (Hughes Net) for homes in Paces Bluff off Impy Road? We are just not having any luck...I really don't want satellite. If it's the only option, does anyone have any input on its reliability? We have finally (almost) finished with the repairs from the April 27th tornados...with any luck, we'll be in before we hit the 1 year anniversary!

If you have good Verizon Service, try their “Mifi”.  It works well for us.  The monthly cost is approximately $50. Had Hughsnet before with several problems.

Unfortunately, I only have about 1 to 2 bars using my verizon phone (better than when I had att) depending on where I stand in the house. I can use the "tether" feature through my phone (work provides for free), but the signal is iffy (and I'm taking online courses) so a good signal is important. Thanks for the tip!

May be a stupid question, but have you tried Charter?  We live just across 34 from you and we have Charter.  Maybe your developer put in underground utilities and Charter refused, but I'd start there.  AT&T now offers DSL out past our road so you might check with them.

Called Charter and they go to Impy...no further. We have underground utilities, but according to Charter they don't go all the way back. I've check AT&T website and it looks like a no go there as well, but we'll call them directly to be sure. Anyone heard of CenturyLink? I found them as well, but haven't heard of them before.

Our Verizon MiFi is great here at the lake . It is mobile so you can take it with you.  I'd go to Verizon & ask to try it...I think you could return if no reception.  I think the MiFi would work even if your phone has only 2 bars.   Nothing can ever be good with AT&T!!!

We live off of 34 and Wildwood. We do not have access to ATT high-speed or cable. Did not want to do the satellite internet. So, we went with Verizon (already had cell phone service with them) and have used their internet for over two years. Have a USB modem 4G that we plug into a router. Can plug it directly into a computer, but we have multiple users so we go the router way. Have the 5G a month plan for around $50. It is not as fast as cable, but it is respectable. And, you can take it with you. Go out to www.verizonwireless.com and check it out. I think you can get a modem free with a 2 year commitment. Be careful, though. If you stream movies or games, you will use up your data allotment fast and then it gets expensive.

Just make sure you can't do Charter.  We live in Longleaf further down 34 on a new street and were told via the 800 Charter number that  we could not get cable.  Then went into Alex City to the Charter office and they said they would connect us -- and they did.  You cannot call the Alex City office directly without getting the 800 number, but you can go into the office there.  They did a good job.

Verizon works really well in most areas of the lake.  We use their MiFi

Just above you on Roberts Dr.  We have Charter and love the speed and ease.  You can also get a Verizon stick to go in your computer for like 20 a month if you already use them.

Yeah, I just figured out that everyone on Impy road has it...we can SEE impy road from our house. We've checked other services and figured out when they map our house, they are getting Paces Trail which is about 3 miles up from us on pleasure point. Very frustrating! Anyway, I'll be making a trip to Charter with map in hand. Hopefully that will help. I don't think we can use Verizon because they cap at 5mbps and we use over 24 in a month according to our current provider.

Anyone ever heard of EVdo Internet service? It operates off cell phone signals. There is a Sprint tower nearby and they is no limit on usage. They also only require a 1 year contract vs the usual 2 year contract.
