I am a pretty mechanically inclined person... but how difficult is it to change impellers on a late 80"s mercrusier outdrive? I have seen directions on the internet and have done plenty of engine related repairs.... It seems that I am having to replace this every year... 1987 19' Ebbtide V-hull, 350 4 barrel. Looks and runs newer than it really is. Any ideas?

Thanks.. if I was close to your shop, I would bring it to you!!!

I'm not a pro like cat...but I can tell you its pretty simple.

May take you a hour or so since its your first time....it helps

if you have someone there to help when you slide it back together....but you can do it by yourself if needed. Good luck.

No really big deal. I am assuming you have an ALPHA outdrive? Just seperate the lower unit by removing the bolts/nuts located around the cavitation plate area. You may find one hidden above the prop that holds the steering tab, so be sure you find them all or it will not come off. The impeller is located on the driveshaft. When you remove the impeller housing, inspect it and replace the housing if it is mared/scratched/damaged, etc. along with the impeller. You may want to put a little grease on the impeller when you put it on. Be careful to align any water tubes, shift shafts and associated items when you attach the lower back to the upper. If you pay close attention you can do it. For best results, oil up your bumpers and sit on your dock when doing the above procedure. :)

ps. We make service calls to Nashville for $1,500.00 <<kidding

WOW!!! only $1500... does that inclue a ride in "Bling It On"? That would probably make it well worth it! I do believe it is an Alpha drive... too lazy to go uncover it right now. Sounds as if this should be do-able. Thanks a bunch!!!

BTW... I am gonna try to head toward the Cathouse when i head down to LM later this summer. Hopefully see/meet you then.

It would be great to meet you. "Bling it On" is sold. But we have another CAT you can ride in.
