What’s going on with all the mess on sides of Co Rd 34?  It has increase dramatically in last year and looks horrible. Just because it’s rural and outside city limits shouldn’t mean there is no oversight.  We were told recently that more people are living full time at the lake than ever. Tallapoosa  County needs to step up and use our tax dollars wisely and protect this beautiful area.

Go to a commission meeting and voice your opinion!

I am so happy to see that I am not the only one that has noticed this trash issue.  I have been meaning to post this exact complaint on this forum.  My husband and I were driving in from Birmingham a couple weeks ago and we were shocked to see ALL the trash on the side of highways 49 and 34...it is awful.  Last year, it was so bad down Win Blu Drive (which is off hwy 34) that I personally got out of my car and gathered trash as I went down the road going to our house.  I gathered 3 trash bags full in a short amount of time and could have gathered more but I had no more trash bags in the car.  I find it hard to believe, in this modern age, that people just haphazardly toss bottles, cans, chip bags and a multitude of other trash items (not to mention cigarette butts) out the windows of their cars! Shameful!!! I wonder what would be the best course of action to get some attention to this matter?

Contact LMRA, they have cleanup weekends around the lake all the time.  They won't clean up your roads for you but will help you organize your neighbors to have an event.

George Carleton is commissioner for this area.  I’m going to call him. Thank you!

60% of all Tallapoosa County property taxes comes from lakefront homes, and very few school children live full time in lakefront homes, so you'd think they could do a little something for their taxpayers!!  To top it all off, Emma Jean Tweet is Commissioner for the north side of 34, and George Carlton is Commissioner for the south side....they literally split the sides of the road.....so nothing gets done.  Hwy 49 is a state highway, so trash is only picked up once a year....and the county wouldn’t dare touch it.  BTW, a whole lot of the trash on 49 blows out of the trash trucks headed for the dump in Tallassee.  Drivers are too lazy to close the lids on trucks...

Is that 60% figure fact or just a guess?

It varies year to year (60-63%) but this year it is an absolute fact.  Quoted by county official.  Go on the county appraisal website, get on the map and compare lakeside with off lake.  Appraiser pumps up property (land) values while keeping improvements low, so people can't challenge.  If you challenge appraisal and win, it's only effective for that year.  Just think about how much more tax money this county gets compared to other non-lakefront homes.....where do-it-go???

I have noticed it as well...    I think they should use prisoners to clean it up.  There is no reason not to use low risk prisoners to work out in the community. They do it in the counties we are at full time in GA and could easily do it here. It may be done here and I am just not aware.

Can't wait to live her full time instead!

It’s not just roadside trash.  It’s real estate, construction, company signs along the roadside, too!  It’s looks like there’s no oversite...can just anybody put up 2x4s and make a sign?

If you and your friends refuse to do business with the advertisers on those signs, the signs will eventually go away.

I feel the same way about polititions who put their signs in the right-of-way.  I will not vote for them.

Call the business and tell them your opinion on the sign. Tell them you don’t like there signs on right of way .
