Years ago, Three men checked in this motel, the manager charged each man $10.00 per room for a total of $ 30.00, later decided he charged
them too much and gave the bell hop $ 5.00 and told him to give it back to the three men, but bell hop couldn't figure how to divide the $ 5.00 between the three so he put $ 2.00 in his pocket and gave each of the men a dollar each, making the room cost each man $ 9.00 so 3 x $ 9.00 is $ 27.00 and the $ 2..00 the bell hop kept, makes $ 29.00

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR
There is no missing dollar. The premise is wrong. The room did not cost each man $9.00, it cost each man $8.33. The fact that the bellhop pocketed the $2.00 does not mean that it was not REFUNDED. It just never made into the right pocket. So it figures like this. Paid $30, got refunded $5. Cost equal $25. 25/3= 8.33. 8.33 x 3 = $24.99 + 5 = 29.99.

Good one Hub Cap.
It is all in how you do the math. To my way of thinking the men paid $30.00 for the room. They were credited $5.00 making the room cost $25.00 and the bell Hop took a $2.00 tip making the $27.00.
