Had dinner here last night, party of 5, restaurant was less than 1/3 full. Ordered drinks and appetizers and waited to order dinner once the appetizers showed up. After about 15 minutes and several assurances that the appetizers were "coming right out", they finally showed up. We ordered dinner and ate our appetizers. After this we kept waiting and waiting for our salads to come out. Finally after being in the restaurant for over 45 minutes out came our entrees, no salad. We told the waitress that we had not received our salads but did not want them at this time and that the bill should be adjusted for this.

Ate dinner and the food was very good. When the bill came there was no adjustment for the lack of salad and asked the waitress about this. She stated there would be no adjustment as the salad was part of the cost of the entree. Not following this logic we asked to speak to a manager. After waiting about 10 minutes with no manager in sight we paid cash for the bill and got up to leave. Now the manager shows up, shows us the grand total of 6 bucks he has taken off the bill and apologizes. We paid the adjusted total in cash and left.

It is sad that when you try to patronize local businesses and have a less than perfect experience that they do little or nothing to correct the situation. This was really not about the money involved but the way the experience was handled which was poorly. The manager did apologize but only after we pressed the issue. I realize this will not hurt their business at all but it continues to be an uneven dining experience at best and that is sad for our area.

We have had three bad experiences in a row so far this season. They will not get another $1 of my money. We have started grilling out more, saving money, and I control the experience.

In my 7 years at the lake, I have never had a good experience there. Whether it be the food, service or whatever, it just isn't worth it. For me, I either pay more and go to Springhouse or Christopher's or I get my "fried" fix at Oscar's for much less.

I have had a few bad experiences at Sinclair's over the past couple of years. I avoid it when possible because of this. However we went to Oscar's the other night and it was packed. We waited about twenty minutes to be seated, not a problem. Great service before and during the meal. And great food.

We have had allot of conversation about Oscars on this board. Whether or not you like the food, the waiters and waitresses are the best. They actually act like they enjoy serving you. Not so at Sinclairs. Oscar does a tremendous job of hiring and I happen to love the food as well. Anywho, I'm tired of talking about Sinclairs. They are a non-factor to me. Celah

Maybe we could convince Oskar to buy Sinclairs and open Oskar's South on the Lake. You have to admit Sunclairs has a great location.

Location is the only reason Sinclairs is in business.

This is my complaint about so many local businesses -- just the total lack of customer service. They don't care if you have a good experience or not, and it's not just restaurants.

I want to support local businesses, but when they act like they don't really care about your business one way or the other, why should I care if they go under?

I agree that the service at Oskars is good, but the food doesn't do much for me. Basically the same quality I could cook at home -- so why pay to go out?

I have the opposite experience in general with customer service around here. (I rarely go to Sinclars, and I do think they are average at best). I deal with a lot of mom and pop businesses where I know them and they know me, and I very much enjoy the experience as compared with the Atlanta area. Even folks at the Do-it in Eclectic are always ready to go the extra mile to help when I need something.

Then we could have the Sinclair's menu with extra cheese!

I've had great experience with Atlanta restaurants....especially suburban. They have more competition and have to have more than a couple of recipes to make it. Now I'm not referring to chains or franchises.

I don't disagree with that. There are many good restaurants in the Atlanta area. My comment was mainly directed at small businesses around the lake. That being said, I don't have a problem getting excellent service here when it comes to eating out...may have something to do with me being a good ol' boy and not demanding service and just showing a desire to be pleased.

I've been eating out in restaurants all my life (literally, my mother did not cook much) and I have never "demanded" service. I do expect that they understand the art of service since they have taken the job -- that is, gauging the kitchen, putting the orders in a timely manner, getting the order to the table while the food is still hot, and in the correct sequence; and checking back periodically.
The best service is friendly and seamless, not overbearing. Nor is it lackidaisal -- like forgetting to bring the salads, and expecting the customers to be okay with that.

And the restaurant manager should always be immediately available to deal with an unhappy customer. That's part of his job.

Unfortunately, I'll never be a good ole boy, and that's probably a good thing.

I'm not making an excuse for this particular incident. It obviously falls outside of any acceptable standard.
The lake area has a unique and challenging set of circumstances. First off, we are not anything near year round, yet in our prime season we are very full of people living or visiting the area. That means no restaurant has but a small percentage of year round service or cooking staff. Also means less trained management. Oskars has advantages in that it does have much more year round support than the others as well as the 4 owners spending considerable time at the restaurant. Even there, they go thru a number of employees may and june till they get a good staff put together.

If the Big Dog had kept his ego in check, we'd still have Cecil's on the Lake instead of Sinclair's. But no, he had to prove that his company could run a restaurant as good as Greg Cecil's. It looks like more and more people are finding out that he was wrong. Some drastic measures were taken to run Greg off the lake, and now everyone knows that it was a mistake.

And I wonder if the Statutes of Limitations have run out on some of those drastic measures???

If you would like to reach an owner/manager @ Sinclair's, try Johnny Sullivan @ Montgomery Catering. 334 269 0222.
The actual manager, Paul Lackey, is the reason for lack of professionalism so I wouldn't waste my time there.
