As regular forum lurkers and posters may know, I had an issue with the top on my Bennington high performance pontoon when it failed on July 4th. I have a favorable resolution with Bennington. They wouldn't cover the damaged frame under warranty (because it clearly states in the owners manual that the top should not be up over 15mph and I was doing twice that number) but they did recognize the facts of my case and they treated me right. Benningon is a good company and I very much appreciate their willingness to look at the big picture and make some concessions. I also thank John McCroskey at American Motor Sports (in Jackson's Gap, our Lake Martin Bennington dealer) for his help. If you're interested in a new Bennington boat, go see John.

Does john do all bennington warranty work as blue creek stated they would only do certain warranty work on my bennington since I did not purchase the boat from them. Also do you know if john does Yamaha outboard warranty work as would be nice to find somebody local for such if ever needed.

Do you keep the 50 MPH Beast under 15 MPH or do you have to drop the top?
Can the top frame be beefed up for the heavy fisted pontoon operator?
All of us tend to want to exeed 15 MPH especially if we get caught in a storm.
|
Well, the 15 MPH top was part of my argument....why put it on a 50+MPH boat (with superb engineering) that turns and handles like a ski boat? Does that make sense? Actually , the top is well made and I think this was a fluke. Bennington said this failure was very unusual and that's why I think I got some help. I also think they don't really expect people to drive under 15 MPH with the top up, but that clause protects them for liability. I'm hopeful that they will be engineering a true 50 MPH top in the future, and I told them that would be a high priority on my next boat. Still love the boat and I'm very happy with the way this was handled.

John handled this for me and I did not buy the boat there (that was about the time he was becoming the local Bennington dealer). He is also handling a problem for a friend of mine that just bought a used Bennington that is still under warranty (not purchased from him). Don't know about the Yamaha warranty service, but that's what is on the new boats he has for sale at the shop. I like the guy..... if you have an issue with your boat, give him a call. For those looking for a new boat, give him a shot. He also sells some used boats.

I'm looking into a few ways to beef up my new frame even though it's better than anything I saw from aftermarket providers......if i plan on a high speed run I do intend to stow the top, but I doubt I will limit myself to 15MPH; that just ain't right.

I agree. I have had the Sanpan up around 30 and no problem - yet. I suspect your one time event was a fluke. Glad they worked it out for you, but even so I know it was a hassle.
It is good you fought the tought battle and won.

Glad you got a favorable resolution to your issue. Do they know if they have inside winter storage available? Looking for someplace close.

They do have storage. I'm not sure if they have slots that are completely inside, but I did see some very nice covered boat shelters. John said they had slots available.

I will check them out. Right around the corner from me so I could drop by and sit in the boat in the winter and dream about being on the lake!

John McCroskey has since left the company. They are in the process of some major BAD dealings with a close friend. As of now, I wouldn't take my dog there to get fleas.....more will come out on this in the future. Bennington owners beware!!!
