Paul Ryan's Bold Budget Proposal

For the last couple of years we have heard from Hound that the GOP has no ideas and I have often countered that Paul Ryan's roadmap was a serious proposal. Now Ryan has officially proposed a bold budget that will begin to rein in out of control federal spending. The Demoncrats have already started lying and demogoguing the plan. Here's what we will so predictably hear........starving Grandma, taking away social security, 55 zillion new deaths every year, starving Grandma, 52 million new homeless, mean spirited, extreme, extreme, extreme, starving Grandma.........
Anybody want to wager with me that we will hear all of the above and more (excluding the exaggerated numbers of course)? I will take all bets on this one!
So here is a bit of reality here. Ryan's budget proposes that the federal government spend $39 trillion over the next 10 years versus Mr. Obama's $45 trillion. Now keep in mind, $39 trillion is $39,000 billion dollars. Does anyone really think the federal government can't make it on $39,000 billion of our hard earned dollars over the next ten years?!?!? This is a serious proposal and one that I believe most of the GOP candidates for President will get behind. It will show that Demoncrats are not serious about the federal deficit.
Another interesting political factoid is the framework of the argument about why the Messiah doesn't deserve another term will center around the deficit and not the jobs numbers. While I still believe real unemployment will be over 10% in November 2012 the government media aided by the lying administration are going to paint a much rosier picture than actually exists (i.e., the exact opposite of what they do when a Republican is President) in sycophantic obedience to Dear Leader. By not relying on this one issue (although it will still be a factor) they will be able to point to something that will not be better in November 2012 but will actually be much worse.
Another factoid about the alleged negative consequences of a government shutdown. The very next cycle after the shutdown saw the GOP return to control of the House for the first time in over sixty years and resulted in a net loss of 2 seats! They have proposed a CR that will fund defense for the next year and will then be free to shut down discretionary spending if Dems refuse to pass a budget that includes some real cuts and eliminates wasteful spending programs like the CPB and Planned Parenthood.

As I understand it, Ryan's proposal is for 2012. Since we still don't have a budget for 2011, I wonder how much attention will be paid to his budget for 2012.
I think it is great that he has put together a platform for debate for 2012. Of course, if the Republicans fold arms and refuse to debate and negotiate, it probably won't go anywhere. I saw a quick clip of his video on his budget and I didn't much care for his "doomsday" speech. But, it's clear that changes need to be made. And the Democrats have demonstrated a willingness to negotiate by meeting the Republicans more than halfway on the 2011.

ANY Republican, Democrat, or Independent who kicks the can on down the ROAD again is INCOMPETENT. This austerity budget will be unbelievably painful. But, nothing like the mortal wound of inaction.
I am ready. Are you? Put in your earplugs… the entitled will be rioting and wailing… and liberals will be babbling incoherently.

The earplugs - that is. Went with E-muffs a few years back - keep a shipload of spare batteries, and even with an EMP, they are fail-safe. OK, I do keep earplugs everywhere as well...... That Boy Scout thing I guess.

I'm going to demand that we raise taxes AND cut entitlements... and then I'll put in my ear plugs. We can lower the taxes when we get our budget and deficit under control.

Read as much of the detail as I could find, and can find no plan to stunt growth of SS Disability payments. Last 20 years, since passage of ADA, have seen disability payments grow from 7.4% of SS expenditures annually to 15.5% of spending. The time for passage, adoption, and implementation of this proposal is now, for FY 2012. It will put us much closer to the right path for sustained prosperity.

Wrong on taxes

Hound, you are just wrong on raising taxes and all you have to do is look at the history books over the last 30 years and you will see this is factually correct. Every time tax rates have been lowered, revenue to the federal treasury has gone up. Every time taxes have been raised the economy suffers and revenues to the federal treasury have eventually gone down.
Forget about raising taxes, they should be lowered and watch the economy recover and revenues go up. It has worked every time its been tried, without exception. You of all people know that the wealthy and corporations will do whatever they can to avoid any tax increases with their legions of accountants and lawyers. What happens to small businesses when taxes are raised is they go into decline and tax revenues drop. Please don't fall for the intellectually bankrupt idea that higher taxes mean more revenue to the government. Even JFK had that one figured out over 50 years ago.
Why do we have to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. And this from an educated person......

he is demonstrating the political courage we need. As usual the dems are trying scare tactics to avoid the issue and playing politics.
Obama's budget is 90% of GDP ... even Ryan's proposal only gets the federal budget down to 74% of GDP. But our politicians need to face the music or we are headed for a train wreck.
As I have said many times ... I believe Obama, and most democrats, want the train wreck. If not, then stop ignoring the "spending" problem and start cutting. The answer is not higher taxes. Higher taxes simply generate more spending ... that is what got us here. More taxes just means slower growth in the economy ... growth is what will pull us out of this mess.
The dems want to praise Clinton ... it was growth from the tech sector that generated the budget surpluses. All I ever here is tax the rich more ... that is already happening. While the "marginal rate" has declined -- the "effective rate" has increased with all the limits now on deductions tied to income levels. Even the ability to claim yourself goes away based on income. It is musical chairs ... the dems cry how the upper income marginal rate has gone down --- that is right --- but the fail to mention all the limitations that were implemented at the same time on deductions that raised the "effective rate" for most high income earners.

yes it is 2012 ... in an effort to get modest cuts in 2011 to pass a budget. His proposal will take a lot of coversation, but it is definitely where we need to go. Obama has said, put a budget on the table and we will talk ... now he has one. And I'll bet there is no talk, only taking shots at it to scare the american people ... when the real fear should be adopting Obama's budget.
I am against raising taxes due to the impact on growth (which we need), and i believe it is an out of control spending problem. But I would say, adopt the Ryan plan or something very close, then we can talk about tax increases if still necessary. But I would bet they would not be.

Elections have consequences. When the conservatives took the House it was because the American people who cared enough to vote put them there with the directions to get spending under control. Compromising with those who lost power is not how that is done. Three questions; Why did the Democrats not pass a budget when they were in power? Why did they not raise taxes and cut deficits when they could pass anything they wanted? and Where have Democrats come more than half way toward meeting the Republicans proposals?

agree ... all they did when they had full control is spend, spend, spend ... add more entitlement programs. They do not want to cut spending ... they would support raising taxes. It is that spend and give away more to buy votes mentality that has put us in this mess. The dems and Obama do not want to face the facts that their programs, their big government all need to be cut. The days are gone to kick the can down the road and make the talk a political football. There is a serious problem and they need to have the conversation and stop ignoring the facts. It maybe true that the republicans are the party of NO ... but just like a good parent, you need to say no or your child will be out of control. We have an out of control child with the current administration.
