Steele continues to make Binden look like a statesman. I assume all true Republicans support this guys resignation. I think he is a DNC undercover agent. WASHINGTON – Republican chairman Michael Steele drew criticism from within his own party Friday, including calls to resign, after saying the 9-year-old commitment of U.S. troops to Afghanistan was a mistaken "war of Obama's choosing." As criticism swelled, Steele issued a statement stressing his support for U.S. troops, but he did not acknowledge his factual error about a war launched by former President George W. Bush in response to the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. A senior official in Bush's administration said it would be impossible for the Republican National Committee to speak with credibility on foreign policy if Steele remained chairman.

I have never understood how he got that job.  He is inconsistent.

The following may be decried by some as a racist comment, but I believe it to be true.

He got the job for the same reason Obama got his:  The color f his skin.

The Republicans needed to shed their image as a whites-only party.

It's an unfortunate slip in judgement; but all too common for the Republicans lately.  The long-term survival of our freedoms depend on the Republicans being percieved as more inclusive.  Without the support of white and minority moderates elections will be consistently lost by the conservatives.  It takes votes to win.  Consider the demograhic trends coming out of the latest census.  If politicians to the right of center are only supported by white conservatives the left will easily dominate within the next generation in almost every state.

Sadly, I believe you are right. Steele had a decent reputation in Maryland. For some reason, he took this job and his butt end is frequently preceding his brain. I think he has become very impressed with himself. Republicans do need to shed their rich, old white man image, unfortunately, they don't seem to be able to pick the right people to do this with.

I agree. Republicans do no know who they want. Everyone knows it is not Obama 'nem. It is very scary the way this country is going and even more scary are the politicians (good vs evil) that are trying to persuade you to their corner. Both are wrong. I believe every office should be manned by someone new...with new ideas, new ears, new eyes and may be before they get indoctrinated into the "stepford wife" (joke) of Washington politics something could be done. At this point, I know of no one interesting to run.. emphatically not Sarah Palin. Ask me next time. At this point, everything is a joke.

First of all who is Binden?!?!  Just kidding.....

I have never been much of a fan of Steele from the outset.  But let's all remember the job of the head of the RNC and DNC and that is to raise money to support candidates from their respective party.  On that note Steele has been less than effective.  Understand that the Chairman is elected by the members of the Republican National Committee, most of whom are not currently elected politicians.  Most are the chair and members of state GOP committees.

I suspect he was elected (and recall it took six ballots) because of identity politics but that isn't what mattered to me.  The question is whether he was the right person to provide leadership in fundraising.  GIven the numerous missteps and the fact that he was also tasked with picking up the pieces from the profligate GOP spenders during the first half of the Bush administration he has not in my view done a good job.  As for me, I support individual candidates and do not give money to the national organizations.  I approach it like my charitable giving.  I like to support charities that are very close to the recipients and have low overhead (ie, most of the money goes to the cause and not administration).  I just don't like these national organizations that try to collect $1.30 for every $1 they spend.  Turns into too much of an opportunity for mischief like we saw with the bondage club fiasco.

By the way, no one could ever make Joe Binden look like a statesman.....or Joe Biden for that matter!

In retrospect, I suspect I really meant Joe Bite Me.

Biden is truly the master of the misstep. You'd think for a politican that has spent so many years in Washington politics, he'd be a little more polished and know when to shut up. The drums are already pounding out the message "dump Biden". I'm with you. I don't contribute to the party, but to individual candidates.

I suspect so......would not surprise me to see Joe fade away before 2012 for "health" reasons.  Of course, given the nature of Chicago politics being practiced in the WH he may indeed experience "health" problems.  I would hire a food taster if I were him..........
