I am in the market to purchase a boat. One of the things I must consider it the ability to pass under the highway 49 bridge.
Can anyone tell me what the clearance is at full pool ?

don't know exactly- just not very much. My tritoon won't make it even with the top laid flat. Might try calling either of the marinas at Blue Creek. Please post when you find out.

Not much. Back in the early 70's some friends were East of the bridge and had a very small runabout with a 60 HP outboard - we had to "walk" it under the bridge - push up on the bridge to clear the windshield for each I beam. The good thing is that "true" full pool does not happen that often. Remember if you have your stern light mounted though, while at The Cove a couple of years back I saw one get converted to a transom light...

You can look at it now and consider that {nearly} full pool. What you'll find is not much of anything other than a johnboat will fit. Even a foot or more down, it will be very, very tight for any real boat.
Have you already bought a place on the "Cove" side of the bridge?

Not much more than a jon boat will fit right now. Thats the reason for the lower property values on average on that side of the bridge.

I don't know the exact measurement, but I own a small Chapparal 180 that makes it under the bridge with about a foot to spare at current water levels. I would just find out the bridge clearance for a 2008 Chapparal 180 and assume another 12 inches. I live on the cove side of the bridge, and in all honesty hope the bridge is never redone. Property values may be lower because of the bridge height (maybe??), but the lack of the big boat churn is wonderful.

We had a place on that side of the bridge. We have a Searay 185 and it passed with no problem. Our pontoon boat passed under but everyone had to be sitting on the floor (kids thought thatit was kinda neat) and like someone said look out for any lights sticking up. We bought our pontoon boat from Fomby's so we knew it would pass under the bridge. Good luck you will have a blast.

Just looked it up and my 180 bridge clearance is 4' 4", so I would say you would be looking at a clearance of no more that 5' or so. Of course, its not like the lake is really at these levels very much either.

I know my Chaparral 1930 cleared with just inches to spare. I had to wait for the waves to settle before going under. ofcorse that was before the ski tower.

Was about to say Fombys wouldn't of been in business if only a john boat could fit under it.
Know what you mean, most folks I know who have homes in there love it.

That part of the lake definitely has some pluses. Favorite spot on the lake to ski & kneeboard. The bridge is dangerous though, we've seen several people from our dock get caught up in the metal supports.

This talk reminds me of the effort it took to go under the old Kowaliga Bridge. Our cabin cruiser wouldn't make it under the center section at anything close to full pool, and we had to pick our way through the wooden supports because of the tight clearances both above and on the sides.

According to another poster in this thread, a "real boat" wouldn't be able to pass under the bridge. I'll bet it comes as news to you that your boat is not real. I'll also bet that you had to pay real money for it, though.

Do tell us what counts as a real boat. Other people in this thread have said that an 18-foot Chapparel and an 18.5 foot Searay can get under the bridge; I guess those aren't real boats?
What about houses? Does a house have to have a certain number of bedrooms, bathrooms, stories and square footage before it counts as a real house?
And what about the people who are perfectly content with their not-up-to-your-standards boats and houses? Are they not real people? Maybe they only count as 3/5 of a person? They might as well be around here, since we've already reached the point where people with boats that are "only" 20 feet long and houses that are "only" 1500 square feet don't matter.

Did anyone bother to stick a measuring tape between the water and the bottom of the bridge? Too may posts to go through to get that answer and I am lazy -- if you don"t believe me ask my secret admirer, GF.
