You have got to love the integrity of the congressional Dems. Reid promised Arlen that he would retain his seniority when he crossed the party lines and would be treated the same as though he were a Democrat elected in 1980. However, the other Dems heard about this and gave a unanimous voice vote against it. Alas, Arlen is now the most junior Democrat in the Senate, and his plan for using his seniority in his campaign has been foiled by the Democrats. Good Riddance.

Great move. Sure to encourage the next one! "Trust me. Go ahead and jump. I'll catch you." Gotta love politics. Such a clean bunch to work with.

No traitor is truly welcome or trusted. If he can violate his trust with the party that kept him in office all those years he can do it again. It's funny how he was willing to accept the Republican voters all these years that nominated him for the seat but no longer when they decided enough is enough.
I wonder if PA is an open primary state. There will be Dem challengers and it would be a complete hoot for Republicans to cross over and vote for his competitor such that he loses the Dem primary.
Arlen just learned what it is to be a useful idiot, and idiot he is. Who's next?

A good summary from The Washington Post about Arlen's move.
"What once looked like a huge coup for the White House -- and from a governing standpoint remains one assuming Al Franken eventually wins in Minnesota -- has quickly morphed into a gigantic political headache that almost no one saw coming."

The more I read the more it seems like he is going to get screwed over completely by the Dems. Lost his seniority, now he is going to be challenged in the primaries, he hacked off Dems in an interview on Meet the dePressed when he called for Harry Reid to seat Norm Coleman and his only explanation was ho forgot what team he was on (talk about a lack of scruples) and on and on.
Arlen reminds me of the old athlete that just can't let go and they end up destroying their legacy. We are a few steps closer to my prediction. All we need is for him to lose in the primaries and then run as an independent (you know, he can't let primary voters decide how he is going to end his career). Can you say Senator Toomey or Ridge?

As for Specter, I an reminded of what Churchill sai when told of Italy siding with the Nazis, "Well, its only fair. We had them in the last war."
