Are there any rules or guidelines for putting trotlines around the lake?  I like to do some trolling close to shore and there are trotlines extending 40 to 60 feet of feet from the rocks on the shore out to some structure. Some of them are hundreds of feet long with milk jugs marking them.   I don't like taking the boat over them.  I have gotten my lines caught in them.  It just doesn't seem fair for someone to hog all of that lake water fro their own personal use.

Trotline are a legal fishing method in the state of Alabama if:
1. at least 6 feet of the line at the baank is made of untreated cotton line.
2. it is not left unattended for more than 48 hours.
3. Anchors must be tied with untreated cotton line also.

Trotline can be removed by the game official if it not legal.

Many if not most of those trot line are not maintained and appear to be abandoned like the loose jug lines you see scatted around the banks. Always keep a sharp knife on board.

This topic comes up from time to time and there is a new correct way to address the issue with every post. MM you do need to remember not to “bring a knife to a gun fight”.

So let me get this right, My line in ONE spot. Is in your 10 MILE PATH. So i need to stay out of your way. Who is hogging the lake? If you are on your dock with a line out, are you going to move it so i can troll by? or should i just cut your line? You are draging a hook in the water you may get hungup on something.
