The market likes Biden's appointment of Janet Yellen to head Treasury.

That and equally so, Trump's directive to the GSA to begin working with Biden's transition team, which the market(s) probably interpret as a signal that there will NOT be another Bush-Gore scenerio, the remaining lawsuits notwithstanding.

Most of the time, the markets are responding to something global, not anything political. I suspect that today's numbers were about the good news that the vaccines will be approved by the FDA soon and available for distribution. Or it could be Tesla - Tesla has been having a phenomenal year.
If you don't believe me, I suggest that you start watching CNBC every morning.

Not really. The vaccine information has been out there for a couple of weeks, except for the recent AstraZeneca data that came out late last week. Geopolitical events will definately move markets in the short-tern, although I agree with your premise that business fundimentals will control over the long hual. Finally, I will pass on CNBC and stick with Investors Business Daily for my market and investment information, TYVM.

Well, whether you like CNBC or not, I think it gives you an idea where and what is moving the markets, if you don't normally read the business and investing news. I really wasn't aiming this at you, but rather at GF, who seems to think the world revolves around the US and it's politics. I don't take investment advice from CNBC per se, but they do interview a lot of people who run and move markets.
According to the NYT, investors felt good about Yellen being named Treasury Secretary. I personally like Mnuchin, but I think Yellen is a good choice. She's not a political hack.

I hope we are, thankfully, moving back into am era of dull but competent professionals and out of an era of off-the-cuff incompetent political hacks! Every aspect of our nation's society from justice, to economic, to international affairs and on, needs such a change very badly. The clown show/roller coaster/shoot-from-the-hip/divide and conquer run is over! Over at least on the WH end of Pennsylvania Ave...the senate end is TBD regardless of whether the GOP is able to prevail in GA!

This from the guy who refused to give Trump any credit for the incredible pre-ChiCom virus economy, record employment numbers and record stock markets. But now suddenly it is all because of Yellen?!?
