Recently, I have had two things happen to me in Montgomery that left me scratching my head and wondering.

Two weeks ago, I went into Chicken Salad Chick.  There was a line to the left side of the door and a woman, who happened to be black, on the other side of the door.  So I turned to the woman and asked her "are you in line?" because obviously, I didn't want to cut the line.  She looked at me and snapped yes, I AM in line".  She said it with a lot of hostility, like she thought I planned to cut in front of her

So yesterday, I was in Costco, and there was a line with one person being check out (and the lines closer to the front of the store were longer.  As I got in line (as to be next) this man, who happened to be black, suddenly appeared out of no where and said "I was in line ahead of you, but I was standing over there."  Well, his cart must have been standing over there with him, because it definitely wasn't in front of me.  He only had a few items and I would normally let someone with less items than me go ahead of me anyway.  I certainly wasn't going to get into an argument with someone in Costco over line placement.  He jumped ahead of me.  But you know, given the racial climate in this country, I wondered if he was just a jerk, or if he did it because he was black, I am white.

I have never thought much about race, because I generally take people as I find them.   If you are nice to me, then I am going to be nice to you.  I do get impatient with bad customer service, but unless it is really flagrant, I generally won't make an issue.  But there seems to be such an undercurrent of hostility lately, I find myself questioning what is going on.  Today, on social media - House Beautiful to be exact, I got called a racist because I commented that I didn't like what Michelle Obama did with the family quarters when she redecorated it - I thought it fought the architecture and the colors were muddy.  Another time I got called a racist because I commented that I didn't think that a dress that Meghan Markle wore was becoming to her.  I didn't know that decorating or clothing had a "race".

I wouldn't read too much into it.  Some people lack human or spiritual formation and are rude and self centered.  And sometimes people are just having a bad day.

Well, I have considered that too.   I don't like to overthink these things, but I do wonder if a lot of black people have heard so much about right now about how whites are keeping them down via systemic racism, and that white people are against them, that when they come in contact with a white person, some of them are suspicious that we're going to act in a bad way towards them.

I actually just think the guy in Costco was a jerk - I think he came up on the registers, I was observing the spots to stand on the floor, and he figured he would just push me out of the way.  Or maybe he was hoping that I would create a scene, so he could call me a Karen and a "racist".

i think its the attitude that youre going to see from now on; I recently saw a black lady in a $50,000 + SUV throw 2 bags of McDonalds trash out her window in the parking lot in Montgomery--when I ( nicely ) said something to her her reply was" mind your F---ing business whitey; i left there in 2007--if i hadnt sold my house then, i would still own it--property values there are in the tank, just like the school system

Friday before last the Boss and I went into Wendy's to get a sandwich at lunch.  There were a few folks at one table in the dining room. I walked up to the plexiglass in front of the register and the fellow behind the counter started pointing to another sign about masks being required.  I gave him my standard response when asked to put on or if I need a mask.  I smiled and said "no thank you, I'm trying to quit".  He, being large and in charge, informed me he "couldn't" take my order without a mask.  I said you're kidding, right? I ask that becasue he was "wearing" his mask like a chin strap.  When I pointed this out to him he declared "but I'm wearing one" very rudely.  I said OK, you win, and pulled my shirt up over my nose and mouth and said I'll have a Number 1.  He then came out from behind the counter to "escort" me out of the store.  I planted my feet and waited think he was gonna put a hand on me.  ONce he saw I was planted he backed off a bit and started motioning me toward the door.  I knew what I was going to do and I needed evidence so I turned around took a picture of the crew, all wearing chin straps instead of masks. One of the girls in the back looked up and saw me taking the pic and and hollered "that white boy taking ya'll picture".  They all turned their backs on me.  I took the pic and turned around and there is the manager standing at the door holding it open for me to leave.  This totally breaks social distancing protocol, BTW.  So I took his picture too. In defiance he just snatched his mask off to show me he was in charge.  I laughed and smiled on my way out.

Everyone knows how I feel about masks so I am certainly NOT going to be refused service for not wearing a mask by someone not wearing a mask.  I told him to expect a call and/or visit soon because I was going to drop a dime on him.  Which I did promptly while sitting at Arby's next door enjoying lunch. I filed a formal complaint with the company, along with the managers picture and was told I would be contacted.  I was a few days later. Had a very interesting conversation with the District Manager followed a couple of days later with a call from the manager himself to apologize, although with absolutely no contrition in his words or tone.  His apology was that he was on vacation when that email went out informing them they were NOT to confront anyone over a mask.  As I said, no contrition only a BS excuse.  I don't work there, got NO emails from them, yet I know his company position while he, the manager doesn't.  Doesn't pass my smell test.

I left out some details that don't matter but the bottom line is the guy thought he was bulletproof with his company due to length of service with the company.  He imformed me at some point during all this he "would be here tomorrow, he would be there next week, I ain't going nowhere".  I have never advocated for anyone to loose their job, not even the two Charter guys I caught in my house once and in the end I told his boss I would feel bad if he lost his job, although he really deserved it.  By disobeying a company directive he committed insorbodination, which is a terminal offense in ANY company.  IF he was unaware, and that is a big if, that is on him.  I will say that I don't think he feels so bulletproof any more and certainly wont be tellling any more white boys to put on a mask.

Bottom line is I felt like this was partly a power trip on his part mixed with some racism, which the "white boy" comment confirms.  The entire crew from manager on down were all black and had attitude with the white boy that refused to bow down to them and stand up for myself and REFUSE to wear a mask AKA let them exert contol over me.  They are, or I should say were, demanding of others what they flagrantly were not doing.  Unfortunately that store has video but no audio, but I expect will be getting audio in the near future.  The Boss felt it was racist also, not to mention stupid as hell and she is much more mild mannered than I am.

I'm glad it is not just me.  The only reason I go to Montgomery is because Costco is there.  I wish they would put one in Auburn and I would avoid Montgomery all the way around.

It is a world of difference shopping at the Publix in Montgomery and the Publix in Auburn.  It's hard to believe it is the same company.  I absolutely hate if I have to go to the deli counter in Montgomery, the people just let you know how much you are putting upon them to wait on you.  One time I was in Auburn I asked to see a manager, just so I could tell them how much I enjoy shopping there.

I think back when I have had excellent wait service by a black server.  One was in a restaurant Lamar and I used to frequent for lunch in NJ.  The guy was totally old school - had our drinks on the table because we were even seated.  Another time I was in an Officer's Club in Dayton Ohio (Wright Pat).  The man provided such service (I honestly think he would have cut my meat for me if I'd let them) and made the whole experience so pleasant that I left him a tip more than my bill.  Those days are sure over forever.

I don't even know what to say about that.  At least he didn't call the police.  Really, when you have a problem like that the best thing to do is contact coporate and let them know.  I had a problem with Walgreens letting people drop there prescriptions off at the drive thru and sitting there waiting for them to fill them.  I had talked to the pharmacist about it and he said there was nothing that could be done.  So I emailed their corporate customer service, who got in touch with the distict manager and it doesn't happen any more.  Apparently, there was something that could be done about it.  It made no sense to me that if I called in ahead of time to have my prescription refilled, that I shouldn't have to wait in line 20 minutes at the drive thru to pick it up, because of someone else's failure to plan.

Now you know what it was like in the 60s when blacks were escorted out of restaurants when they tried to sit at the counter in Alabama. They got clubbed, Bull Connor's fire hose, and went to jail. What a lackey.....go to corporate rather than wear a f'ing mask. Why not use your dumbass mind and order at the drive in window?

Slavery, Jim Crow, KKK.......all brought to you by the Democrat party.  Then they pivoted to a better solution....voluntary slavery by destroying their families, their sense of self worth and subjecting millions of them to abortion......all once again brought to you by the Democrat party.

I refuse to wear a mask for anybody.  I do it because I am a sentiet being abale to think for myself, and take responsibillity for my own actions.  But just so you know I MIGHT have just left and eaten elswhere IF he had been waring a mask and making his staff wear one also.  I have a set of balls and will stand up for myself against tyranny where ever I see it.  Only you and archy, well maybe rhh too, would submit to a man wearing a chin strap ordering you to put on a mask.  I'm sure the lot of you would have stooped down to kisss his ass and lick his boots too.  You are both whiney little bitches with no BALLS, and even less intellect.
