Im amazed at the term"non-essential employees." in my 30 years of corporate life serving as President & CEO of 3 major companies--non-essential was never used--instead we used "contract labor'. we paid for work performed, no benefits whatsoever--they were employed by the CONTRACTOR  & 'leased" to us; if business slowed down, contract labor was cut, as business increased, so did our need for contract labor; maybe the GOV"T should consider this for the estimated 800,000 non-essentials.

As far as I know "non-essential" was created for these shut downs.  The essential employees are those that are selected to work wihtout pay to maintain basic operations (i.e., in case of a national crisis).  They are the ones left to respond to the Hill and any other emergencies that might come up.  The "non-essentials" are the rest of the people, and their work is piling up.  It doesn't truly mean they are "non essential, but when an organization doesn't have any money to pay it's workforce, someone has to be there to keep things going at some minimual level and the rest of the work doesn't get done.  It's really a meaningless term.  

Although the media likes to go on and on about the parks not being opened, and TSA workers calling in sick, there are a lot of other jobs that are just minimally staffed - like air traffic controllers and FDA inspectors.  Do you consider them "non-essential"?

I thiink it is going to come as a shock to Pelosi and Schumer when they finally wake up and realize that this President is not going to capituate.

I’m betting if Trump declares a national emergency and signs an Executive Ordder , Dems will rush to a liberal judge in Hawaii or San Francisco to declare it unconstitutional

I have no doubt.  In the meantime, our elected reps constinue to get paid, money is still going into their retirement plan, payments are still being made to their health insurance.  They are not at all concerned about not getting paid.  It's pretty easy to maintain your lofty ideals when your pay is not at stake.  

I notice the media wants to blame all this on Trump, somehow thinking he should be the one to come off of his demands.  Meanwhile, Dem's aren't negotiating, they are not willing to compromise at all.  As far as I'm concerned they are all to blame.  Just another example of how insulated people in Washington really are.

Oh yes they all have some level of blame.  Politicians on either side can care less about the peasants - they all know where their bread is buttered.
