If you could move your Lake House to any part of Lake Martin, where would it be and why?

Little Kowliga. It's where I'm at, but I'd trade houses with the guy across the water on Neros Point in a new york minute; Thats always been my favorite lot on the lake......I wouldn't trade for any other area of the lake.

One vote for Little Kowaliga, one vote for Goat Island, and one person changing the rules to relocate a neighbors dog to Little Kowaliga. I believe the OP said, if you could move your lake home to any part of the lake, where would you go. We have stayed up north, around Bay Pine Marina, Blue Creek, and the Windemere area. All were nice, but I would lean toward the Windemere area. Kowaliga looks very nice, is it a little quieter on that side of the lake? Is Little Kowaliga to the South, and Parkers Creek to the North?

south west part of the lake. In general, the clearest water is west of the Hwy 63 bridge and traffic is lighter than the main river channel.

My choice would be Fool Slough. Best neighbors in 9 states, view of the big water, calm, quiet enough for kids to swim, and dogs to fish, yet you can float all afternoon without sloshing a drop from your floating martini glass. Oh yeah, covenants and restrictions are co-op like. Following application, your attempt to buy property on the slough is subject to the approval of association members.

If you get an answer that says "I don't like my lake area" I would be surprised. But..
We selected Parker Creek simply because it cut down the commute time from B'Ham on Friday Nite a little. No other reason 18 years ago.
- Boat Traffic - Water clarity
- Restaurants - Marina access
- Shopping - Privacy
- Density - Commute to/from home
PC has clear water, less boat traffic, some privacy, lower density, with absolutely no restaurants, poor marina, no shopping at all, and lonely, lonely, sometimes spooky Winter weekends. Also, no law enforcement evident, ever, never.
All bets are OFF if Russell starts development of the peninsula it owns, measured by water from PC Marina almost to Real Island Marina.
Several years ago LM was listed as one of the most desirable retirement locations in the US. We knew that already, did we not?

I hope you are not my neighbor and that it isn't my dogs you hear barking. My GSP is a quiet dog except when he's fishing, but my hound likes to bark. I try to bring her in as soon as I hear her start. I hate the sound of barking dogs.

My parents made one of the first choices, and picked Little Kowaliga. That has to be one of the best choices that they ever made. Big lot, a great swimming area with nice sand that washes over from the neighbor's swimming area(they picked the lot in large part for the swimming area-a gentle slope with plenty of room for kids to splash around)and spectacular sunsets. I don't think that I would want to be anywhere else.

My point was you spelled the word with the middle "a", rather than " Kowliga", like it sounds and the way it is commonly used in error.
Just trying to keep some of the true history of this place and the Wooden Indian alive. Hank too.

Thanks for all the replys. My wife and I will be in LM next Tues looking at some homes with Rodney Griffith. We have about 15 homes lined up, all on the Southern end of the lake, from Little Kowaliga to Blue Creek. Our commute would be from the South, through Montgomery. Thanks again for the input, it helps to hear local knowledge.

I agree with Mack that Parker Creek has clear water, less boat traffic and is more private, but I have to disagree with him about Parker Creek having a "poor marina".
I have been doing business with them for close to 6 years now and they have always been outstanding in their service and are always friendly and greet me and my family with a smile. I have never had any problem with them. As a matter of fact, they have always been there for me, whether I was out of gas out in the middle of the lake or my battery wouldn't start at my dock. I just wanted to stand up for them. In my opinion, Parker Creek Marina IS an excellent marina.

I would stay where I am. I am on Bay Pine Island. We are able to look out at all the undeveloped land, the beautiful change of seasons. We looked in the southern part of the lake and just didn't like having to look at other homes after being spoiled with such a wide open God given view. There are the things you would like to incorporate if this was a perfect world, but it's not. I'll keep the beautiful view and the wonderful neighbors over the crystal blue water and the stacked houses and the convenience to the few restaurants on the southern part of the lake. Thanks Tara Taylor for finding it for us!

We bought a lake front lot 5 years ago in River Oaks(the oldest of the RO neighborhoods)for several reasons:
-since it is part of AC, we have police and fire protection
-maybe 10 minutes to town, shopping, restaurants and highway 280
-over mile 1/2 view to Madwind State Park ( will never lose the view to condos or builders
-hospital in town
-sandy lake front
-not a busy part of lake
-beautifully developed neighborhood with covenants to protect property value
-nice size lot about 1 1/2 acres
-2 lots to our right are point lots and we'll have privacy
-gradual slope to the water
our own piece of heaven
