I have knee replacement surgery coming up in early March. Does anyone have a recommendation for physical therapy. It seems that my choices are Lake Martin Physical Therapy on Airport Road, or at the hospital. Anyone have any experience?

My advice, having expereince with both and a couple of REAL physical therapist, I would avoid them both like the Rona. I wuold also advise you to spend absolutely as much time on the machine that bends the knee back and forth. I was told to spend at least 2 hours a day on it. I spent 4-6 hours a day on it. I had it set up do I could watch TV and use it and spent omost of the day on it. I was also released from Home Rehab after only 10 days instead of the 14 that is standard. Motion is lotion!!

Had mine replaced dec 17. Dr. Tucker at Hughston clinic.
So I am using their PT in Auburn in same building as Auburn Hughston clinic.
I used motion machine off and on for two weeks but relied heavily on exercises instructed by PT.
Have been pleased. And about to graduate!!

Having had a knee replacement and the necessary rehab, I would highly recommend The Orthopaedic Clinic rehab group in Opelika. Very professional group of therapists and they can make the rigorous workouts fun or at least tolerable. Rehab is critical!

Mike Ellis at Pro Impact in Montgomery. They'll work you, but very good results. 334.356.6453.

Been there, done that. My family physician very uncharacteristically told me "if you don't do your PT you might as well not have the surgery."
I am pretty confident that the other posters' recommedations would serve you well, although I recommend Linda Craig at Montgomery East Physical Therapy (334) 244-5892. We have known Linda for years and she is a no-nonsense PT assistant who emphasizes regaining full range of motion. If you do the exercises properly it won't be a lot of fun but the investment in time, effort, and yes, pain is well worth it.
Whatever you decide, best of luck to you and, while during the process you might doubt the outcome and get discouraged, trust me it will all come together in the end and you will be pleased with the results.
PS: After all is said and done you may hear some rather disconcerting popping noises coming from your new knee as you walk. Not unusual at all and as long as there isn't any pain with the pops, you are fine.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Has anyone used Lake Martin Physical therapy or RMC?
I definitely plan to use the CPM machine. I know the physical therapy won't be easy, but I'm so ready. At this point, I'd happlily walk on a bed of nails to get rid of this pain,

I have used both and will never use either again. I had great PT's in Ga, but horrible experiences here.

I used a different group and was very pleased. That being said, I agree 100% with Mr. H's advice.

I have both knees replaced, agree with every thing Mr h said. Start working that leg to help with your range of motion. Don't get discouraged. If you have a recliner it is more comfortable to sleep in than a bed. Best of luck.

And to add to what's already been said, my PT recommended my starting leg strengthening excercises even before the surgery. This made my recovery easier.

If they put a nausea patch behind your ear have it removed after the surgery.

Good luck. I've had two and used the folks at RMC. Wonderful folks and got me moving, etc. quickly.
