Starting to shop for new refrigerator.  Where do you think I will get the best price - Home Depot, Lowe's or Best Buy in Auburn or Tapley's in Alex City?  Pros and cons on French Doors.  Have side by side now.

I think Lowes and Home Depot Will be very competitive. There are some great prices right now with $1800 to $2000 list prices going in the $1000 range. Current prices are the best I have ever seen. Lowes and Home Depot usually have 6 month and/or 12 month financing with no interest.

Rix appliance store, Opelika beats all of the big box stores. Ask for "Bubba", the owner or his dad.

Several years back ordered one through Home Depot. After I drove down from Bham their delivery service never showed up.

Their customer service center kept saying they were on their way for a 10:am to 12:00 noon delivery up until the phones shut down. Then took 2 weeks to get a refund from them (I had ordered and paid in store). No apology or anything.

Then went to Moore's hardware in Dadeville they ordered exact same refrigerator $50 cheaper free delivery and take away of old unit.

its taken me over 6 years to be able to buy anything from Home Depot.

I've had trouble with HD as well with regard to delivery.  They don't have good follow-thru.  I'm getting that I would rather deal with a small company, pay a bit more, but know they will show up when they say, and if there are problems, they will be there.

Stay away from freezer in botom drawer and icemaker in the fridge section. Bad problems, can't be repaired.

I agree....go to Moore in Dadeville. Our washer died and I went to Moore. Agreed on model and and a competitive price. Owner asked when did I want it delivered. I said.."as soon as possible". They put the new washer on their truck and followed me home, installed it, and removed the old one.  Now that is service.

We have both. Side by side with water, ice cubes and ice chips. French door with just ice cube maker in freezer.

We had a problem with height of new fridges...they would  not fit under cabinets above. Remember, if you have a tight fit...the height shown is the height in the front with hinges. Measure the height in middle since you will not be putting door with hinges under csbinets.

We felt with French doors we would always be opening both door to find anything. That is exactly what we do since you can't really remember what is on each door.

The  French is nice since when you do open it everything is there and easy to reach. Freezer is fine but a hassle if in bottom. I do like the width of the freezer in the French over the side by side as well as the wide shelves in the fridge.

I can not post about the ice maker with water in the French which is part of the fridge door. We all know the side by side in the freezer is dependable. Grabbing cubes from the French door freezer is no big deal. Kinda like the old days when we were growing up. Most of the time all we use the unit in the side by side is for cubes so cubes only in the French is no big deal. I would be alittle concerned with the unit if the fridge side since you open and close the door so often. In the side by side, the freezer door may be opened evry other day once.

If I bought one today, I would get the French.

PS We did not buy the French as it was already in house.

Nice review.  Thank you for taking the time to reply.  I think are going with the French, but will not know for certain til we see them in person..  Going to hit the big box stores and then hit Moore's and Rix.

I have a side by side, but if I were buying one tomorrow, I would go French.  The freezer in my side by side isn't really wide enough.  We've had problems with the icemaker.  And the molding in the refirgerator takes up a lot of otherwise useable space.  The drawers are not really big enough.  I thought I looked carefully when I bought it, but it looks differently when it is empty, vice full.  Because we live here full time, I keep a lot of food onhand.  I have another full sized fridge in the basement that I didn't pay a lot for, and I swear it has more space than the one I paid a lot for.

Visited Lowe's and dealt with Larry Campbell - a gentleman who was retired from the appliance business.  Looked at both three and  four door French refrigs from Samsung.  Impressed with reviews - first in it's class.  (Home Depot advertised same prices.)  Next hit Best Buy and while they do not stock refrigs, they can order and will beat any other deal.  But would only save $50 and they would get eaten up by the delivery and ice maker kit, so moved on.  Next Rix's.  Dealt with Rick - he beat all others by $200 and the refrigs were in stock.  Was almost set on three door with two ice makers (we could disconnect one) when I spied a three door with-in-a door.  We had had these in FL for a number of years and loved them.  Really a savings in electric by just opening one small door.  Went for lunch, discussed with husband and then back to Rix.  Dealt with Bubba this time, got a good deal, paid for it and out the door for delivery next week.  (It will take me that long to clean out current refrig!)

A busy small store that does not need to advertise (although I wish they had).  We mentioned that we were referred to them by someone on LakeMartin.com and he was glad to know.  Thank you for the information - if delivery and installation goes well, we will deal with them again.

Again, thanks.

Conni,

We buy most of our stuff at RIX for our Auburn properties.  However, just got a new fridge at Lowe's Black Friday sale at price and value we both are happy with.
