and things look to be disastrous for our country. What is astounding is that Obama intends to create the debt more in 10 years than was created since the turn of the century. It is no wonder the Senate race in Mass is competitive. I actually think a good many Dems are pulling for Brown so they have an excuse as to why health care failed. They are hoping not to be taken to the woodshed by the voters and still be able to mollify their base with a yea vote on this travesty. In a weird way, Brown winning has the potential to help Dems electorally and help the country by defeating Obamacare. I will accept more electoral success for Dems to save this country from disaster. Where they can grasp defeat from the jaws of victory is if they either ram this through before Brown is sworn in or go with the nuclear option.
What is telling is the spending under GW with a Republican Congress. They get a partial pass from me with 9/11 and even partially with the wars but a good bit of that binge was entitlement and domestic spending from an out of control GOP that abandoned fiscal conservatism and were summarily booted for doing so.

Apparently a thousand miles in a picture is worth trillions in debt!

Partial pass...yes. But Bush bailout blunders and insisting on finishing his dad's war started us down a path where we lost our "small government" argument

I would say that GW never promised small government and never ran as a small government leader. His tag line of "Compassionate Conservatism" was code for smaller "big government" rather than small government. Don't get me wrong, I opposed Bush on many of his spending decisions, especially some of the domestic spending on entitlements and discretionary items.
However, I would hesitate to oppose the wars based on the cost. If it is indeed a "just" war (however you define that) then we should be willing to spend whatever it takes to win it, period. Otherwise we do a great disservice to our military personnel. If you oppose a war, say Iraq, oppose it for whatever reason you think applies (i.e., not a threat, not in our national interest, bring us into a Vietnam-like morass, etc.) but keep in mind that the cost is a symptom, not a cause. And when we get in there we need to fight to win.
